Music is universal; it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t love listening to music. Although, we might not all enjoy the same genres, our musical preferences are often shape our personalities, moods, influences, even our upbringing.
Music serves various purposes in our lives. It is a form of art and entertainment that varies across cultures. People perceive music in different ways: for some, it is a source of entertainment, for others, it is therapeutic, inspirational, or motivational. For me, music serves all these purposes.
I used to listen to almost all kinds of music, as long as it was good and enjoyable. Recently, though, I have been enjoying and finding more comfort in listening to slow and calm music, although I still like faster songs, I now have a distinct love for soothing music.
Also, recently, my approach to selecting music has also changed. I have become more selective about the music I listen to. If a song isn’t meaningful, I see no reason to listen to it. I was never the type that paid much attention to the lyrics of music, I just went with the rhythm and vibe of the song.
These days, the music I listen to is mostly Gospel music, particularly calm and soothing gospel tunes. This change has been part of my effort to build my spiritual life and reshape my mindset. Gospel music not only relaxes and comforts me but also helps me focus on my spiritual journey. The lyrics often offer messages of love, faith, and hope which I find very uplifting.
While my playlist now consists of gospel music, I also enjoy other calm music with meaningful lyrics— something inspirational, thoughtful, or motivational. Songs about love are fine too, as long as they aren’t crude or explicit. This kind of music helps maintain a positive mental state and a good sense of well-being.
Due to this, my circle of musicians has narrowed. I mostly listen to Hillsong and Bethel music along with other calm worship songs. I also love listening to Alessia Cara and Passenger, they are currently my favorite artists.
I rarely listen to upbeat music these days, but I do enjoy it occasionally depending on my mood. Whether it is an upbeat gospel song or any other song with meaningful lyrics and a nice rhythm, I sometimes find myself vibing to faster tunes.
One reason I chose to get rid of those meaningless songs or music all about girls, clubbing, sex, and other trivial themes was that I wanted a change. I realized that the music we consume can significantly influence our thoughts and emotions. I wanted to surround myself with music that can contribute positivity to my mindset and well-being.
Although, I usually used to enjoy calm music like that of Billie Eilish and wasn’t really into gospel music. However, over time, my preferences have shifted toward more spiritually uplifting music.
If you are a fan of gospel music, I’d gladly recommend Hillsong and Bethel music. Their music is both spiritually enriching. For those who find soothing music pleasing. I’d recommend Passenger and Alessia Cara. Their music is a perfect blend of nice lyrics and great melodies.
In a nutshell, music is a personal and powerful force in our lives. It has the ability to influence our thoughts and emotions.
