Looking back to 20 years ago, I would say so much has changed. I can look back to 20 years ago today because I was born then . Hell, I was even running around in school but I can’t say same for my dear friends and
.😂😂
Some weeks ago, I was having a discussion with some people, I don’t quite remember who but someone mentioned that, these days the younger generation look bigger than the older generation because of evolution. It’s actually true because I’m taller than my mom and my younger sister who’s just about 16 years old is also taller than me. Funny right? But that’s one thing that has changed over the last 20 years.😂
We are meant to evolve as humans because it’s a part of who we are. Talking about my surroundings, I must say that so much has changed in the last 20 years, both good and bad and I would like to touch on a few changes from both ends.
Did I hear someone say climate change? well, let’s have it then. Growing up, there were so many trees around and less structures. People lived in simple houses with so many trees. You always had the luxury of enjoying the fresh breeze under your mango tree after a long day at work. Today, you can walk for almost 10 minutes before coming across a tree and words can’t explain the amount of heat waves we have to endure due to our own carelessness . I grew up in the south and it was only when I came to the north that I got to see the beauty of the sky. As I was growing, things were changing and people started putting up huge buildings all over the place. You couldn’t even enjoy the beauty of nature anymore.
Looking at another angle, I believe that today’s generation has the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from technological advancement in todays world. Gone were the days when you had to use a bird to send a message to someone far away. Today, they’re all just a text message or phone call away. Life has been made easier through the advancement of technology and this is one of the many good we get to enjoy today.
If I am to focus on our environment, I believe I would say that we have done more harm than good to our environment over the last 20 years. But the good part of this is that, we have grown to finally understand the effects of our actions and this takes me to the issue of mentality shift. I bet you most of us wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to go to school if our parents didn’t want to have a change of mentality. I’d like to believe that even though most of us still live in the Stone Age, quite a good number of us have had a restructured mentality from the one we grew up with. That’s the beauty of life. As we grow, we learn.
Life can’t always be perfect, but we can strive to maintain a perfect balance between the good and the bad. In the next 20 years, I bet the world would be a much more better place than it is today.
