There are some things people do together as a family that help strengthen the bonds and make everyone want to spend time together. In my family, we watch movies together except when it's time for my dad's news channels, my siblings and I will vacate the sitting room leaving my dad with his wife(my mum) and their "news".
Another way we spend time together as a family is when we play games, especially indoor games. One of the games I enjoyed while growing up was the "Ludo game". It is a strategy board game in which two or four people can play. The game has a board that consists of two dice and four houses which are blue, yellow, green and red. Each of these houses has four token pieces each and that is what a player uses in moving around.
The first player to roll a number six using the dice is the first to move a token piece outside of the house and start racing. The goal is to be the first to move all your token pieces to your house without anyone capturing your piece.
I remember always looking forward to this game and also maintaining my "championship". Sometimes even some of our neighbors around join in the fun and we would all take turns playing together that we would even forget we want to eat.
Sometimes when my parents want to play this game together, my siblings and I will be rooting for them both. But I am more of a fickle supporter as I only support anybody winning and if the tides change so does my support. They all laugh at me while I am changing sides and in the end, none of them would want me to support them anymore.
At times, due to carelessness my siblings might misplace some of the token pieces but we never let that deter us as we can decide to be creative and cut out some plastics we no longer use as a substitute for the token pieces and keep on playing.
The strategy I use in playing the game is one people love as I always take risks and charge head-on and in the end, it always yields good results and makes me win. It didn't take long before some of my neighbors also made use of my strategy, while it worked for some it didn't work for others.
I could recall one day when a friend of my dad came to visit. After having his discussion with my dad, they both came outside to receive fresh air and they saw my sister and I playing. The man was interested and told my dad that they should play after I was done playing with my sister. My dad told him that he should play with me instead as I am the "champion" in the community.
The man just smiled and said nothing. As we started playing, I thought it would be easy to win as I always did but I couldn't believe my eyes when this man won 3 to nothing. Ha, I felt so sad and I couldn't believe this man came from nowhere and smeared my reputation. Everyone who heard about my defeat laughed at me. It didn't take long before I accepted my defeat and join in laughing at myself.
All in all, What I love most about the game is that anybody can play it either young or old which is one of the reasons we all enjoy it.
Thank you all for coming around.
