Breast Cancer is a common tumour I'm the world, the disease that can change a woman's life.
It mostly affect post-menopausal women over the ages of 50 and above, but this does not mean that, it is not found in men at all, but there is only 1% in men.
Upon all the researches done, breast Cancer has remained incurable , especially when detected late.
The result of an excessive proliferation of cells caused by a series of genetic mutations, this type of cancer can develop in any breast tissue.
Types of Breast Cancer
Non-invasive: it is also called in situ, it can stay within the originated part of the breast without spreading to other parts.
Invasive: this type of cancer, spreads very fast from the originated part, to other tissues.
The common areas are the loubles, which is the glands that produces milk, and lactiferous duct, which helps in the transportation of the milk from the loubles to the nipples.
Breast Cancer can be diagnosed as:
Early Stage
The tumour remains localized in the breast or the axillary lymph nodes
Locally advanced stage
In this stage the disease has spread to the nearby tissue and lymph nodes
Metastatic Stage
In this stage, the primary tumour has colonized all over the body organisms, leading to secondary tumor tumour locations.
This disease is most found in women than men, because men patients are always aggressive in their recovery stage.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer has overtaken over lung cancer as the most common cancer in the world today. In 2020, 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer were detected, representing 11.7% of all cancer diagnoses. Yet, despite its prevalence, breast cancer is curable if not detected late.
A healthy lifestyle reduces the likelihood of developing cancer. To ensure that the disease is diagnosed at an early stage and properly taken care of, an annual breast examination by a specialist is highly recommended for all women over the age of 20. Women over 50 should also go for a mammogram every two years, to ensure that their health is secured.
If anything unusual is found when the examination is done, there are usually follow-up investigations (second mammogram, ultrasound, medical appointment, biopsy) to take care of the patient’s health and rule out, or confirm, the presence of a tumor.
Once the cancer reaches an advanced stage, when it has been spread to nearly tissues and lymph nodes the only option is treatment, which aims to prolong progression-free survival and improve quality of life.
Consequently, regular screening and comprehensive prevention are the best ways in the fight against breast cancer.
