Scrolling on YouTube, I was able to see educational videos on my current focus of study. It happened that in those days, we had limited access to information. The young ones of this generation should consider themselves lucky and use it to their own advantage. When my biology teacher was teaching me about fruits and all, I had never seen a combretum or a samara. However, on YouTube, I was able to see it virtually. Moreover, I have never been to the UK or USA, but I have seen a lot of their interiors from Hive, Facebook, and YouTube.
In recent times, news that censored TV stations in my country cannot dispatch to the public due to political influence is being told to us by bloggers on different social platforms. Additionally, we have seen how social media is helping in interethnic or regional marriages. People from other continents can be seen on various chatting apps. Moreover, many people no longer need to go to permanent sites for marketing, as there is an online store. In fact, they can pay for their goods online.
Moreover, social media is now an avenue where depression can be avoided. Yes, with social media, your voice can be heard. It is only in the relic of our days that you could only pass information via TV stations. Now, there's Twitter, Hive, and very many more.
Here I am, in my own space on the Hive blogchain, writing to every other blogger, all because it is a kind of social platform.
However, of recent, my pastor, Pastor Taiwo, said something, and I quote: "Social media needs to be censored more than it is now." I understand his fear. However, social media has come to stay. Facebook has, recently, created a Facebook platform for kids—this tells you about the growing censorship of content on social media.
In addition, some say that social media has done more harm than good. Hmm! That question lies in the mentality of that particular user—the kind of mindset. A person with the mindset of educating the public about health sees social media as a place of benefit. The harm it does might be greater for younger kids, because out of curiosity they might visit sites that they are not meant to visit.
Social media is not for the weak! You might encounter insults and abuses, but at the same time, be determined to make a difference.
I remember how I was hacked on my Facebook account some years ago, before the introduction of double verification. The hacker then used my account to scam some friends of mine, saying that I was in the hospital. I had to create another one and inform my friends about the scammer and their activities.
In short, social media platforms are good if you have the right mindset and know what you are doing.
Thanks!
