My Christmas celebration was sweet, awesome, and truly memorable, even though I did not have any big plans for the day. Unlike many people who plan outings, travels, or parties, my only desire was very simple: to eat good food, go to church, and sleep well. Because I had no expectations, I was not under any pressure, and that made the day even more enjoyable for me.
This Christmas was quiet and calm because my brother and sister did not come home, so it was just my dad, my mummy, and me in the house. At first, it felt a bit unusual, but as the day went on, I realized that spending Christmas with just my parents was a blessing on its own. Sometimes, peace and togetherness are better than noise and crowd.
Very early in the morning, we prepared for church. Going to church on Christmas Day is very important to us because it reminds us of the true reason for the celebration, the birth of Jesus Christ. The service was beautiful and filled with gratitude, joy, and prayers. We thanked God for life, protection, and provision throughout the year. After church, we returned home happy and fulfilled.
At home, the real celebration began. We killed our chickens and cooked delicious meals, including jollof rice and fried rice. The aroma alone made the house feel like Christmas. One thing I really loved was that we shared our food with neighbors and friends. Giving to others made the celebration more meaningful, and it reminded me that Christmas is also about love, sharing, and kindness.
Later in the afternoon, we pounded yam and enjoyed it together as a family. The food tasted extra special because it was prepared with love and eaten in unity. After eating, we had some visitors who came to greet us. We welcomed them warmly and served them food, laughter, and conversation. The house felt lively for a while, filled with joy and simple happiness.
When the visitors finally left, the house became quiet again. We were tired but happy, so we rested and slept for some time. One of the most special moments of the day came later in the evening when my mummy and I had a deep mother-to-daughter talk. Since we do not live in the same house, this moment meant a lot to me. We talked about life, growth, experiences, and love. That conversation warmed my heart more than any gift could.
I realized that I did not need big plans, expensive outings, or loud celebrations to enjoy Christmas. Spending quality time with my parents, sharing food, giving to others, resting, and having meaningful conversations made my Christmas truly special. It was simple, peaceful, and full of love, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
