It is a thing of great concern how cultism has become the order of the day in secondary schools this days. Cultism was heard of mostly in the University and institutions of higher learning. But nowadays, boys and girls not even up to 18 years of age are now involved in cult activities.
Am teaching in a private primary/secondary school here in Nigeria, Portharcourt city, and it is very shocking to know that children are involved in cult activities or related vices.
As a teacher, who has gone through life at different stages and seen the consequences of involving in this kind of group. Necesity lays it on me to counsel, caution and advice them to the best of my ability. I know that some of them won't hid while some will. Some need to go through the hard experience first before they learn. But as a teacher, I will do my best to see how to help them out.
My one cent advice to parent is, they have alot of role to play in the life's of thier kids, some of which include; early counsel, prayers, getting close to their wards so it gets easy for them to open up in case of peer pressure etc. A very old adage that holds true says;
"Train up a child in the way that he should go, that when he is old he will never depart from it"
When the case gets bigger than the parents, then there's need to seek advice quickly on steps to take before things get out of hand. By showing such commitment, certainly, light will always show up at the end of the tunnel..
If we can all win in our various families, then the societies will most definitely have well behaved and modest minds.
