Last week was busy for me so I didn't post anything about the Texas NASCAR race. So I figured better late then never. Especially since this race was so exciting. Many times road courses are not as exciting as the oval tracks. However, last week in Texas was a very exciting race. There were pit strategies, top racers spinning or getting spun out, and mechanical problems that continually changed this race. The race last week at Circuit of the Americas Austin, Texas was only the second time NASCAR cup driver's had tackled this course. Last year the Cup Series was run in a strong rainstorm, but this year was clear.
The race started with Ryan Blaney taking the pole and Daniel Suarez started in the 2nd spot. Daniel Suarez quickly dominated the first stage of the race. At the start of stage 2 Daniel Suarez was spun as the pack of cars raced into turn 1. Daniel Suarez then got a flat tire as a result of the spin. Another guy who had a good race was Tyler Reddick. In the photo above you can see Reddick challenging Blaney for the lead. Reddick ran up front all day.
Road Courses always seem to bring out guys that only race on road courses and Texas was not different. Guys like Boris Said and AJ Allmendinger are two of those road course guys. Allmendinger appeared to be a guy that had a shot of winning this race.
With about 5 laps to go Joey Lagano spun which put a caution out. The race would now go into overtime with a two lap shootout between Alex Bowman #48, Allmendinger #16, and Ross Chastain #1. This was one of the most exciting last few laps I have seen in a long time. I really wanted to see Ross Chastain win the race since he led the majority of the later laps of the race. Also Chastain had never won a Cup Series race before. I included the last laps of the race in the video before and it's better to watch then to read about it, so enjoy.
The final results of the race were as follows:
- Ross Chastain
- Alex Bowman

RICHMOND
This week NASCAR goes to Richmond Virginia. The pit stalls are on a curve which in past years has created some action. This year the new cars have made the pit road action crazy at times. I believe pit road at Richmond will cause some teams problems this week. As I write this the Cup Series is qualifying at Richmond.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and the race this Sunday from Richmond.
