I have been a racing fan for most of my life. One track that I have always loved to watch races at is Bristol, Tennessee the track has huge banking for such a small track. The track is a half mile in length and the banking reaches 30 degrees. This track has long claimed itself as the fastest half mile in the world. This year NASCAR again covered the racing surface in dirt, which I think made it even better. The nostalgia of racing on dirt is something very special and NASCAR definitely got it's roots their. I am very happy to see NASCAR's cup cars returning to the dirt.
This season NASCAR has had some great new ideas but many of them are old ideas. Racing back on dirt is a great idea for the top drivers in one of the most watched racing circuits. Another race NASCAR did this year is hold a race at Los Angeles Coliseum. The Los Angeles Coliseum was just an exhibition race, but I am hoping that these events become part of the season. The Los Angeles Coliseum held the Olympics in 1932 and 1984. The Los Angeles Coliseum will be the first Stadium to hold the Olympics three times when it host the 2028 Olympics. The race at the Los Angeles Coliseum was held on a very small track and NASCAR had held a races at other small tracks that surrounded a football field. One of those races around a football field was held at Bowman Gray Football Stadium in North Carolina, which was a dirt track from 1939 to 1947. The track was paved in 1947 and still continues to hold local races.
Below is a photo of Los Angeles Stadium as a football field and then a race track. The last picture is a photo of the modern day Bowman Gray racetrack.
While some may not like the small tracks instead of the large Superspeedways. I have always been a fan of the little tracks, it just creates more intense racing.
This years Bristol dirt race was held on Easter Sunday. The race started and Chase Briscoe seemed to run away with the first stage until he had a tire go flat on him. The race was delayed a few times due to rainstorms and for the last stage of the race Tyler Reddick seemed to be in control of the race. Tyler Reddick is a favorite in our household. Tyler Reddick is a young racer and we were very happy to see he was on his way to his first victory. However, Chase Briscoe made his way through the field and was chasing down Tyler Reddick for the lead. In a last turn effort by Chase Briscoe he ended up driving into the corner as far as he could and spun both him and Reddick, allowing Kyle Busch to take the win. Below is a video of the last few lap with Tyler Reddick in the black and white 8 car and Chase Briscoe in the blue and white 14 car. Enjoy!
I hope all the racing fans enjoyed this post.
