I first started watching baseball while in Connecticut with my papou, the Red Sox fan, in 2003 and that happened to be third baseman Bill Mueller's very best season as a pro! Mueller won his only awards in the MLB that season as he was a Silver Slugger and the AL Batting Champion that season. The following year he'd help the Red Sox win a World Series. So I think it's safe to say I have a good memory of Mueller.
It's still funny to me learning of these players' pasts, when I simply see them as the players I remember as a kid. Mueller had a whole eleven year career, but I happened to watch Mueller at his best and when the Red Sox were COOKING toward a World Series. Just pretty cool to me personally. Makes those times with my Papou even more special.
Mueller's pro career spanned from 1996-2006. He played for the Giants the longest from 1996-2000, and then eight random games in 2002. Mueller also played for the Cubs and the Dodgers.
Overall Mueller had a solid career. He retired with 1,229 hits, 85 home runs, 493 RBIs, and a .291 batting average. Pretty great career for Mueller! Nowadays he's done a lot of coaching at the MLB level.
