Jason Schmidt was a quality MLB pitcher for 14 years from 1995-2009. The first half of Schmidt's career was rather average to slightly above average but Schmidt seemed to really figure something out as he caught fire in the season after the last one shown on the card. In 2003, Schmidt posted a 17-5 record and had the best ERA in the NL with a ridiculous 2.34 ERA! 2004 was also pretty incredible for Schmidt as he went 18-7 with a 3.20 ERA.
I knew Schmidt was solid, but I'm actually surprised at how good he actually was, he was better than I thought. Schmidt earned his three All-Star selections entirely in his 30's. He also placed top five in Cy Young voting twice in his 30's including placing second in that 2003 season I mentioned.
Schmidt has some impressive career totals. He went 130-96 over his career and held a 3.96 ERA. I would not have guessed Schmidt had less than 100 losses and a below 4 ERA. He also recorded 1,758 strikeouts.
Cool and interesting to know Schmidt was better than I remember! He's on the Giants Wall of Fame.
