I have been wanting to write this article for a very long time and I'm glad that today I was able to write it. Many people have asked me how I manage to write consistently every single day. To be honest most of the days I won't feel like writing even a single word. But I still make a post on that day. It is because I usually have one of two articles already in backup to use on days I have no feeling about writing articles. Some of the days I will feel like writing more than one or two articles. Today is one such day. I have good energy to write a few articles.
About Stackedit markdown editor
I have been using the markdown editor for a very long time. It is one of the best markdown editors that I find online. I used to be a fan of Hackmd.io but later I switched to Stackedit markdown editor because it had a little more features and gave me what I want. So on days, I'm energetic and enthusiastic, I write a few extra articles and keep them in stock. Whenever I feel not writing an article, I take some articles from my stock and publish them. This makes me stay consistent in my writing.
Pros
Stackedit markdown editor has some great features that make it cool to use. I would like to list out a few that come to my mind and what I have observed so far.
- First thing is that all our contents are stored in the cloud and not in the local storage.
- I have a facility to login using my google account and connect with the drive. All the articles are then stored in my google drive.
- We can create multiple workspaces based on our needs. We also have a facility to switch to any workspace we want and they are stored separately.
- As we write the article there is an auto-sync facility available that syncs up with the cloud making it secure. If there is a connection loss, the data is stored locally in the browser and then synced up when the connection is back. We will not lose data even if there is a connectivity loss as long as we keep the window open. I missed this on the Hackmd markdown editor. It also had a cloud facility but sometimes when we have a bad connection, the writing will be affected to a great extent. Sometimes whatever we type also disappears.
- Historical versions are also maintained. We can look up to previous versions of the file and restore them.
- The folder structure is another interesting thing that I found in this app. Initially, Hackmd.io did not have a folder structure and that is one of the reasons why I wanted to switch to Stackedit. I organize all my contents in folders and these apps help me do that easily.
- An import and export facility is also available.
- Another interesting thing I like about this editor is that it displays word count at the bottom. This gives me an idea about the length of my article.
Cons
Not all the applications are perfect for the need of users. There are also some small things I would consider as cons for Stackedit markdown editor.
- The application is available only for the browser. It would be great if a mobile app version of the application is available.
- I was unable to use Grammarly on this site. I would consider that as a drawback. I will be able to see the Grammarly icon here but it doesn't suggest anything inside the editor box.
How my writing is made easier?
Most of the time I don't sit and write the articles fully. Whenever I get a spark of a new topic for my article, I open the Stackedit app and create a placeholder for the same. Some day when I feel like elaborating it or when I don't have any topics on top of my head, I glance through the list of topics I made a note of and write on them. Sometimes I even write down the contents as just hints inside my topic so that when I sit and write the whole article, I also get ideas easily and I will not get exhausted easily. When I create hints beforehand, I will just have to develop the hints at a later point in time. That makes my writing easier.
