Wendy's heart palpitated out of sheer joy. She could hear her heartbeat loudly in her ears. As she looked out of the bus window, she could see the trees running and some animals bolting to safety at the sight of their vehicle. She was smiling happily like a three year old just released into the outside world.
Using her palm, she touched the glass window in a way of connecting with what she saw. Nature had always been her charmer and this place was no different. She was charmed for sure.
”Hey Wendy, what are you looking at? Join us in singing the camp songs okay”.
”Okay Cherry” Wendy replied.
Cherry was her very good friend and she was also the one who had convinced her to go on this trip. Cherry called it a Summer camp out, promising a whole lot of fun. Since she had her first quarter of the year break, she decided to go for it.
”Get ready campers. In about ten minutes, we will arrive at Victory Camp. I promise you all that you are gonna have so much fun you won't want to go back to your Mama's, hahaha”.
That was Coach Frank, the leader of this camp. He's known for his exaggerated displays but he's also kind at heart and that's why people love him.
Coach Frank brought out a whistle from his pocket and asked all of us to count along with him, which we all did. True to his words, we arrived at Victory Camp in ten minutes. With a blast if. His whistle, he gave orders for us to alight the bus and we all did.
Wendy carried her bag while Cherry carried hers, just like the rest of the other campers. They alighted the bus and Coach Frank did the honours of showing everyone their cabins. The whole place was breathtaking. Wendy couldn't help the awwwn expression that left her lips.
Cherry chuckled at her friend before saying ”I told you you'd like it here”. Wendy simply nodded as she kept eating up the view with her eyes.
Coach Frank showed them to their hostels and also gave them their program schedule for the next three days.
”Listen up guys. Now I want you all to go in, relax and refresh and by 6pm, we are going to assemble outside for our ceremonial bonfire night. No excuses and no members left behind. Is that understood?” Coach Frank asked.
”Yes sir!!!” They all chorused before dispersing to their various hostels. There were ten cabins and each one accommodated two members only, bringing a total of twenty campers.
Wendy kept observing the beauty and serenity of her environment. She felt at peace just being there and she was sure that she could get lost forever.
While she was still daydreaming, Cherry pulled her into cabin 5. ”We need to refresh ourselves and prepare for the bonfire Wendy”.
”Yes, alright your highness calm down” Wendy said, trying to get Cherry to slow down and perhaps stop dragging her like a rag doll. Back in their cabin, both girls unpacked their bags, had lunch, bathed and got ready for the bonfire.
Soon, Coach Frank blew his whistle signalling all to come out for the bonfire night. Cherry was extremely happy. ”I hope to find a good guy to be my boyfriend tonight”.
Wendy could only laugh at her friend's desires. She was just here to have a great time, nothing more.
For the bonfire, Coach Frank did an amazing job. He had them sit round the fire with drinks and snacks to enjoy. There was cool music playing in the background and he also made them introduce themselves, which they all did. Wendy was shy at first but after the introductions, she began to relax and enjoy the camp fire.
A guy named Josh walked up to her and asked to dance. Wendy agreed almost too quickly. ”It must be the alcohol talking” she thought. She danced with Josh and they lost track of time until she began to feel sleepy. Josh noticed this and offered to lead her to her cabin. After making sure that she was settled in, he bid her farewell and returned to the party.
The next morning, Cherry woke her up to prepare for some games. Wendy quickly looked at the program given to them by Coach Frank . The activity for the day was fishing. Wendy became scared instantly. She didn't like huge bodies of water and hence she refused to go. Cherry had to convince her into tagging along.
Wendy tagged along on the boat but it was clear that she was scared of the water. Coach Frank was kind enough to let her sit down and not fish. Josh, her admirer, caught multiple fishes and gave some to Wendy which she very much appreciated.
The rest of the camp days were fun as they went rabbit hunting, mountain climbing and planet gazing. Wendy truly wished that the camping would continue but she knew that she had to return to work.
The camp idea brought up by Cherry had done her so much good as she formed new bonds. The most special bond being the one she formed with Josh. They had both exchanged numbers and he had promised to give her a call once they returned back home. The four days of fun experience she had was worth it and she had Cherry to thank for that.
Thank you all for reading.
