monologues
hello fellow hivians, the truth is that starting anything is difficult, i woke up this morning and that seemed to be the first thing on my mind. it seemed strange to me because the night before i had slept peacefully after speaking with my one and only (wink) lol..
and why im mentioning it here is because for the first time the following thought that spanned my mind was: its only difficult because of my expectations of success.. naturally, ive never thought like this, its like i certainly do have expectations. 100%... bt maybe, that's why its soo difficult??..
long story short, i realised intuitively, that it was a cycle, and maybe the only way to get out of it (even for a moment, to breath) was to let go of those expectations..
NOW, that doesnt make sense does it?.. that's exactly the paradox.
i didnt mean to delve as much into my thought process from earlier, but at least I had to make you understand its origination..
artworks
Anyway, i wanted to share my artwork with you'all, and talk about the processes that got me to develop it as you see. the thought process NT the technical process!
THIS is Ashley. shes coming out of the garage, as you can see - shes ducking. slightly under the shutter gate. this frame, I actually really like it, because it was one of effort!. what am i saying?, basically all the sequences in my animation look ugly after the first render, so why is this different?, because initially, i planned to do a swipe out from the front view, that is a dolly out view to reveal ASH, NOW wearing the Gas mask, but the shot wasnt good. the Garage interior was subpar!... Fuck!, im even angry now lol.
i had pictured that particular sequence over an over in my mind, so when i hit render and saw the result, I panicked!.. i should stop panicking if im an artist right? loll...
but, i then controlled myself, i was probably in a good mood that day, so i thought - could i do it from the side?, but how can i make an impact on the Gas Mask since that's kinda my purpose?. she went into the Garage without a Gas Mask, so i need to make the reveal stand out? right??..
so it occured to me that what if she accentuated the Mask by ducking!.. and that was it.. that movement alone, with a slow to fast pan out will add emphasis to [shes coming out for a reason, and yeahhh, oh shes wearing something new].. and before i knew it, the shot had turned into something much much better than the front view could ever have given.
i do not have the resources to create a full fledge garage interior like Pixar YET!. so i might as well, make do
this was the shot, before ashley was ducking, i guess that after having tweaked the side view a lot, adding slight FOG, dust particles that will look like fireflies in the final sequence, and the lighting setup to properly highlight ash. i knew that it would be a great shot..!
i loved this shot, i couldnt pinpoint why i liked it, until gemini taught me something. it taught me that this was a great shot because of the rule of thirds. it means that, when u have to position a character and want to make their presence speak, positioning them off center(the thrid of both sides) creates an entirely diff impression. IT was outstanding to learn that. because even before Gemini said so. I felt that this shot was so great because? - Ash was commanding presence, she felt ready!, positive, and the viewers eyes was drawn to her at that front side. Check it Urself.. [just look at the image].. your eyes are instinctively drawn to ashley at the front and the rest of the environmental props are filtered as the background.
So, i finally went and animated ashley to duck out of the gate, and then utilising this new cheatcode in my creative books (the rule of thirds), she will duck out from the left thrids of the Screen and move into view on the right thirds of the screen. which is perfect.
so after sharing a bit of my thought process on how I built this frame's artwork from my animation.. I'm glad. to have put it down in writing, going with the flow. and now im tired, so I will get back to some other more productive things.. lol. and i just talked about dropping the expectations xd.
BUT, until next time where i bring you even more stories from my building process. I hope you enjoyed this!
