Although, it happened few days back, Nigerians are are still in awe and in joyous celebration of TOBI Amusan breaking the world record to become the world champion Gold medal in the Women’s 100m Hurdles at the recent World Athletics Championships, where she had a breaking world record with a time frame of 12.06 seconds. She was also given $100000 cash gift.
The thing about this win is that, despite the insecurities and tribal disparities amongst the nation. Everyone stood still and forgot ethnicity to acknowledge and pay respect to the world champion not regarding her tribe or culture. It was a one Nigeria win. We look for to these types of events.
One thing that inspires about her journey in the athletic world is her determination. It was dugged up at some point that she had predestined her win into the future as far back as 2016. Also, when she was younger, she had always had a flare for athletics but her father was strict and made her focus on studying but her mother do sneak her out.
It's been all over social media but not on hive media, celebrating on WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook even the president has congratulated the young champ. She has indeed made the country proud and proved that even though our leaders don't take proper care of athletes, they still do well for themselves and make something out.
An emotional moment was during the chanting of the national anthem, she wept. It's a proudly Nigeria moment.
