We managed to get out for an evening walk tonight after work and school - its not easy to persuade a pre-nager (she'll be 13 in two weeks) to gout out for a walk in the evening, with her parents !
We went to the meadows which is a large area of parkland south of the city centre in Edinburgh (Scotland), which is right by a large part of the campus of the University of Edinburgh.
While there we passed this lecture theatre where the students are staging a demonstration. I think it is fairly common for them to stage a demonstration like this annually, where they often occupy the building - which is quite cool. Its nice to see freedom being exercised !
The meadows (the park) has quite a lot of cherry blossom trees, which is why we went, as we thought they may have been in bloom, because they ones where we live are - not to be ! They haven't started yet in this part of the city.
Although there were no blossoms, the park was very busy with students as it was quite nice evening. Many were doing exercise & sports, some were having a BBQ and others were just hanging out.
It started getting dark fairly quickly once the sun started to set.
Along the bottom edge of the park, there are some really nice apartments. Some are very modern, and they are mixed in with some older ones, like the one above which was built in the 19th century and used to be part of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary hospital. The hospital was built to a Nightingale design, a layout based on the plans of Florence Nightingale, which was cutting edge at its time.
It was quite nice walking around the park, and it was so busy that it gave it quite a buzz - we really enjoyed it.
Its nice to be able to get out more in the evenings with the warmer weather and daylight hours getting longer.
Quite a nice evening indeed !
