The month was October, and it was my first time attending the youth conference of our church. Being a national conference, there were lots of participants from all over the country. This had been much spoken about, as it was an avenue to interact and mix with youths from other parts of the country.
My eagerness was top-notch as I was assigned to give a PowerPoint presentation on behalf of my fellowship president, who was unavoidably absent. It sounded proper for me to dress corporate, and having to rush to meet up with other assignments, my already ironed clothes were quickly worn over my average body physique. My Honda car had always been my companion, and we went wherever I led it.
The crowd was a fair number, and I knew my spoken English would wow them. I had, of course, rehearsed a few words that may sound difficult to pronounce.
"Can we have Bro. James come up for his presentation?" The master of ceremonies (MC) had called out, and I walked majestically from behind the crowd to the stage. I was quite coordinated, and my diction was heartwarming. Being a jovial individual, I spiced up my presentation by walking through the crowd in an attempt to make the topic more interactive. There were giggles here and there with a few chitchats, and questions were attended to exhaustively.
The twenty-minute presentation soon came to an end, and the applause from the crowd was overwhelming. I could only smile, knowing fully well how my presentation was executed. I walked back to my seat, which was behind the crowd, while the next presenter went on the stage.
Having fasted my stomach till the afternoon, I retired to my car to have a drink and snack to satiate the hungry army of soldiers that ransacked my stomach. Relaxing in my driver's seat, my attention was drawn to my pants trouser, which were torn in between (revealing an inner short) and extended to the back. My head immediately felt heavy, and a cold shiver ran down my spine. Gloom quickly overtook my countenance as I felt like rewinding the hand of the clock. 'How come I never noticed this? Was this how I stood before the crowd? Could their giggles be because of this?' Were the storm of thoughts that ravaged my mind.
I felt terrible at that instance, and the only decision I could make was to drive out of the venue back to my house, which was about thirty minutes away. I would have stayed till probably evening time, but, with the torn trouser and the probable embarrassment I had exposed myself to recently, I needed to get out of there.
I left the venue and called a little after to inform them of an emergency engagement I had in town (may God forgive my excuse 😂).
Thank you for reading. I would love to have your comments and contributions 🤗
