Apart from being the source of energy and nutrients, Foods should be tasteful and enjoyable. Eating of food should be a passion that every living things supposed to have. Everyone should have a relaxed mode and take enough edibles to be sustained and enjoy.
Eating and drinking are my passion that I enjoyed most. It became my nickname when I was in secondary school because I eat for a living 😁😁😁 but one day, I faced the serious problem when I was presented with the kind of food that I have not eaten before. It was weirdest food that at point in my life because I have not seen or ate it before. Let's me share the story with you.
In Nigeria, apart our tertiary education, it is mandatory that we serve our country under various form of humanitarian and volunteering works for one year. In that special service to our fatherland, we are mandated to move to other part of the country and stay with them during that year of service. In that new environment, we experienced different cultures which includes their foods, languages and dressing attire. I was posted to serve in the southwestern part of the country.
My arrival at the yorubaland was exciting and pleasant at first because of my expectations and loving stories that I heard. I heard that these people are loving and kind which is true because they accepted me and others very kindly. They are ready to help and assist us especially when you do your best to hear their languages. Most of them accommodate other people because they're educated and enlightened.
However, Egba people, the Yoruba clan that inhibit the Abeokuta, Ogun state region are very loving. They accepted us with open hands. No wonder they always invite me to their home and parties. In fact, I enjoyed my stay for that year with them. During my stay, I met the Weirdest Food Ever which was their favorite delicacy known as ewedu! Truly, it became my favorite too after many trials.
The presence of this food turned me off and even it's preparation sent shiverings to my bones. In my native lands, we don't eat it like that and we prefer to use okra to prepare it. But this types affected me especially when my host presented it to me in their home. It is prepared from jute leaves which is very delicious and tasteful which I supposed to enjoy.
This soup is similar to okra soup which is our favorite. Igbo people like other people of the world loves it but having it in such form shocked me at first. Even the way, every yoruban enjoy this soup marvels me a lot so I decided that I will start to eat and enjoy it too. I practiced it many times when I will buy it and eat at my home before it became my favorite.
Till now, I love this soup and enjoy it deeply. This soup is very nutritious and reason why the yorubans are healthier than other people. This soup usually have assorted meat on it which is another reason why I never missed it again. I love food and meats which this soup presented to me easily. Even now, I still enjoy it at my best.
Thanks to for this topic for the week which gave me the opportunity to share my experience and enjoy the platform too
