Today, after months of research and provaracation, i finally ordered an e-bike kit and a battery for my Conway mountain bike.
I've rarely used the bike, probably less than 10 times per year since i bought it (used) from a friend. He tells me it's a very good quality bike so better to convert rather than buy a new e-bike which would be lower quality and a lot more expensive.
My friend also ordered the same conversion kit as me, but a smaller battery.
Although i've researched quite a bit to choose what to order, my friend has reasearched a lot more, and he's a 'bike enthusiast', so i've followed his recommendation.
This is the kit we've ordered.
It's a Toseven mid drive kit with 500 watt motor which powers the crank-shaft (where the pedals are) as opposed to a hub kit which powers the wheel directly (motor is built into a new wheel).
The mid drive motor gives power to the rear wheel via the existing cogs and chain.
This is the battery i ordered:
It has LG brand cells & is 48 volt, 20 amp hour. I hope to get a range of approx. 100 kms (with me also pedalling).
The battery was ordered from Amazon Germany. I rarely order from Amazon as i don't like to support their violent actions (by using their services), but i make occasional exception if i can't find what i want at comparable price elsewhere. i'm perfectly imperfect!
Battery Cost €254 (including delivery to #Bulgaria).
The #ebike kit, which includes the motor and other necessary components (as shown in packing list above)
Cost €299 (inc. delivery).
I will also buy two new tyres more suitable for on and off-road use and with puncture guard protection. They will which be fatter than the existing road tyres which are prone to punctures off-road. Cost of new tyres will be approx. €50 euros for a pair.
So, total of €583 That's pretty good i think. i'll probably only use the car about once a month from now on, not that i used it much before.
A new, same spec. but lower quality bike would have cost at least double the price, and my bike is in very condition anyway, and i have two other push bikes. i don't want to build another room or shed just for all the bikes :-)
Ok, so here is my bike, before conversion.
I'll make a new post and picture of the finished result when it's all been delivered and fitted and working. Hopefully that'll be by the 16th of this month latest, as i would like to be able to ride it for a day or more before i join a ten day silent meditation course (which i wrote about here:
@atma.love/yellowstone-2018-series-power-to-the-people-meditation
I'll use the car to go to the course anyway. i need to figure out long distant trips more than 100 k round trip, with tent etc. and places to charge battery.
After the meditation course i'm considering going to the Balkan Rainbow gathering, which i think will be in Albania - siblings are scouting for a site at the moment.

i've only been to one #RainbowGathering before, about 3 or 4 years ago in Macedonia. I think/feel it's time for another.
