Cycling is one activity that can become very addictive once you have mastered it, and that was exactly my case after I was able to find my balance on two wheels. It wasn't an easy task for me, and I went through a lot of suffering before I could ride bicycles with my peers.
Mastering cycling always made me want to hop on every bicycle I saw, and it nearly became an obsession. My sibling, who taught me how to ride, always teased me and claimed that he felt the same way too, but mine was way too much, probably because it took me a while to conquer my fear of balancing on two wheels.
One common thing we have as humans is to always improve with things, especially when there is more you can do instead of staying at one point forever.
Balancing on two wheels soon became an ordinary thing, and I wanted to explore more with a bicycle. At first, I started riding for over thirty minutes at a time. Whenever I was sent on an errand and given money for a bike, I would rent a bicycle instead, which was so much fun for me.
I was scolded for that several times, but that didn't stop me from always renting a bicycle since I couldn't afford one back then. Things went like that until I started practicing stunt because performing stunts was a trend and those who knew how to do those stunts were respected.
My practice went smoothly, but I didn't do more than just leave the bicycle handlebar for a few seconds. It was the easiest of the stunts, but I was really scared to try other stunts.
I finally summoned the courage to try another stunt, which ended in disaster for me. It was a Saturday and I had a group assignment with my classmates so I rented a bicycle, some of my classmates who had bicycle came with theirs too.
We barely spent an hour with the assignments, so we started riding around the neighborhood. We raced first and went on to show stunts, but I sat out of the stunts since I could only do one.
While others were showing what they've got, I was busy practicing some blocks away. My only intention was to cross my left leg over to the right side while holding the handlebar so I would have legs on one side while pedaling and the bicycle would only move slowly.
It was quite simple to imagine this stunt, but immediately after I removed my left leg from the pedal, I lost balance and fell. I tried it again repeatedly but didn't succeed.
I remembered my time with the bicycle was up, so I rushed back home while one of my classmates accompanied me. He said I could master the stunt with his bicycle, and that was good news.
I started trying again with his bicycle, and it was a disaster. My problem was that I could ride a bicycle but failed to understand that not all bicycles are the same; I didn't know some bicycles were modified fot stunts.
My classmates bicycles had pedal brakes, while I was used to handbrakes. While trying the stunt, I couldn't reach for the brake while the bicycle speed was increasing due to the sloppy road, and I crashed into a small field that was just cleared. Unfortunately for me, there were some small stumps covered with weeds, and one cut beneath my smallest toe.
I managed to get up, and luckily for me, only the bicycle handlebar needed to be adjusted. That day marked my last attempt to learn any stunts, and I just rode happily without thinking about stunts after I recovered.
