Timer: 30 min.
Next activity: Washing my hair.
The past: A tomato, cheese and garlic sandwich… 🤤 toasted in a pan, landed in my stomach and is now doing whatever such things do in a sea of gastric juices.
27 minutes left.
What we’re focusing on today:
What goes through your mind when you’re cycling? What’s the craziest idea you’ve ever had while pedaling? Did you actually put it into practice… go on, tell us!
One question… or several rather broad ones, but in my case I can say that sometimes nothing, and sometimes everything. And when it’s everything, it’s all at once. Let’s say, for example, the street, the cars, the people I see in the distance ready to cross, the pothole I can’t avoid because I’ve already glanced back and if I try to dodge it I’ll die, and then there are also the dreams I treasure, the ones that make me so happy that they keep drawing smiles on my face because as I pedal I feel them fulfilled; thoughts of love, thoughts of freedom, thoughts of… songs. 😁
19 minutes left.
It’s true, , that when you’re cycling and really enjoying it, stopping to take a photo would interrupt that state of flow. So I agree with you. And for you, who are reading this and landed here like a meteorite, I’m replying to his Sunday chat post.
What I do is stop once or twice during the ride… and take a few photos. Sometimes the scene isn’t beautiful at all, at least in my view; however, I later realise that I’m writing a blog that will be read by people living different realities, and perhaps mine might be interesting to them.
This place is of historical interest. I took the photo from the back of the Ciénaga Station in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality, in Havana. It turns out it has kept its name since it was founded in 1837, and it was the first stop on the train route between Havana and Bejucal.
When the railway was established on the Island in 1837, it was already known in England (1825), the United States (1828), France (1832), and Belgium and Germany in 1835. In 1838 it would reach Austria, and a year later the Netherlands and Italy. As far as Ibero-America is concerned, we did indeed hold an undisputed first place in terms of the railway. Spain did not have railway transport until 1848, and Portugal not until 1856. Mexico, Colombia and Chile in 1850. In 1851 the railway reached Peru, in 1855 Panama, and Brazil in 1857. British Guiana had it in 1848.
There are 6 minutes left on the timer. I’ll be back once I’ve washed my hair.
I wonder why, if it’s a historical place, it’s in such a state of deterioration.
This question came to my mind several times yesterday, but fortunately there are always angelic beings who rescue you and steer your thoughts towards a better place.
By the way, I don’t know at what point they drifted so far that I started thinking that, once I got home, I’d make myself a passion fruit and tomato juice. A truly revolutionary idea — I’ve never tried such a combination.
I thought about the tomatoes I had in the fridge, red and juicy… clearly hunger was beginning to kick in.
1 minute… the timer is about to go off.
That blue train carriage you see over there… it belongs in a museum.
Oh God, if you’re an English speaker, what it says up there on the roof is: ‘Fidel, we will fulfil!’ Well, I hadn’t noticed that sign until now, when I uploaded the photo to the post. The same thing happened to me as it did to you with the bird’s reflection, .
That promise of ‘we will fulfil’ (fulfil what)… Better stop thinking about politics and go get myself an ice cream.
Time to wash my hair… later I’ll tell you why that activity is mixed… or combined with writing this post.
So then… time to add another 30 minutes to the timer.
Done!
What a lovely tree. White Carolinas, perhaps? If so, I need to go and check how the pink Carolinas nearby are doing. 😄
What I told you I would clarify… the whole hair situation and all that…
I had put some water to heat on the stove because the shower heater is broken. I can’t be bothered to fix it, and it’s been like that for days. But it only bothered me now that a chilly little breeze is blowing and my body said NO to an ice-cold shower. So 😏 another task added to my to‑do list… I was simply optimising time. Writing while getting the bath ready.
How’s multitasking going for you, Nozem01?
Damn it! I didn’t make the passion fruit and tomato juice yesterday because it needed the blender, and when I got home there was no electricity.
I uploaded today the route file to Strava and it was very dutifully published automatically through my alternative account .
😀 What a great card I drew from the deck yesterday, and it accompanied me incognito throughout the whole ride until I got home and it was revealed.
What's your count so far for this year?
In terms of the distance to cover by bike, of course.
I was thinking of around 3,000 km.
I’m terribly bad at maths, so I asked my friend Copilot for help.
She said:
If we reduce it to pure maths, the calculation is simple and you need nothing more than a bit of consistency… and your legs, of course.
🚲 Basic calculation
To cover 3,000 km in a year, you just divide it by the 52 weeks.
That means:
👉 You’d need to pedal about 58 km per week. 🌱 What does that mean in practice?
• Two rides of 25–30 km per week already put you on target.
• Or three short rides of 18–20 km if you prefer to spread it out.
• Or one long ride of 50–60 km if you enjoy doing the ‘big Sunday loop’.
🌤️ And if there are slow weeks…
No worries. You can make up for it in calmer months or when you have more energy. The important thing is to keep a rhythm that feels sustainable and enjoyable.
If you like, I can help you put together a realistic weekly plan based on your usual routes in Havana and your riding style.
I’ve covered 45 km so far this year… I hope I can improve over the next few days. Post edited (this info was missing) at 22:22. 😝
There are 14 minutes left on that damn timer. And now I have to translate everything I wrote in Spanish.
And I’ll let you know if I make that juice. It might even become another post hahaha.
Hands off. Timer’s up!
The future: Me heading out for a walk.
