I was one of the many people who criticized the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in my country; Nigeria, which is a mandated one year posting for fresh graduates. You will be posted to another state where you are to serve for a year with different postings ranging from teaching or farming, depending on your qualifications.
I felt it was a waste of time because they hardly take good care of these fresh graduates but my perspective changed when I travelled to another state for mine. I've always been a private person. I love being in my space and won't bother taking the steps to go to another place unless it's deemed necessary. I don't use to like travelling until that year, in 2008 when I embarked on my journey.
Travelling is fun and I see it more as a sightseeing exercise where you have to learn about different cultures, explore the world and absorb the beauty that comes with it. Travelling is like having a fresh start, where you leave everything behind temporarily. It's like going to clear your head, having a fresh start and having a better perspective on things. This is the beauty of travelling.
I carefully went over 's post titled [Excursion in the pirate cave, tourism] and she said something which I am trying to emphasize for the basis of this post and it reads:
Being there we forget everything because the adrenaline starts from the first moment π€ we divide the group into several parts since only a small group is allowed to enter the caves, while some wait their turns we take the opportunity to take incredible photographs πΈβ£οΈ the place helps a lot because it's just beautiful ποΈπ
This is what travelling does to you. Apart from the fact that it gives you better scenery, it also helps to rejuvenate your energy... give you flowing adrenaline and you just detach from a lot of things that worry you. More often than not, it gives you a better attitude to either tackle the problems you are facing or at least, give you the solutions you have been seeking.
Travelling is good for our mental state. We have been too used to the familiar things and most people are comfortable with the familiar but we need to have our comfort zone challenged. Apart from seeing the world and having fun while at it... travelling is more healing than it is fun. We all know how many people struggle with their mental health, especially with the ever demanding and pressured world, I would recommend travelling for everyone. It doesn't have to be expensive and too often, it can be once in a while just for the sake of our mental health.
Travelling is about healing, fun, seeing the world, appreciating the simple things of life, creating memories and also seeking answers as we put our welfare above everything else. When you are feeling overwhelmed and you feel too familiar with a particular place, take time out to travel. Go sightseeing and visit nature... Travelling heals and that's the truth I've come to terms with. It took me a while to recognize it but I am glad I finally did.
Thank you for your time.
