There is no such thing as a bad peace or a good war
~R.J Tunnel
What is Peace?
The first word that comes to mind is TRANQUILITY, which translates to a state of peace and quiet. Peace is a phenomenon that everyone has a different opinion on.
It is difficult to measure the concept of peace due to the subjective nature of the term. Therefore, what does peace mean to you?
For some people, peace simply describes the absence of war or crime; be it inter-tribal, inter-communal, or international.
Some define peace as when they are able to relax with their family with nothing to worry about.
For others, peace is a state of being in agreement or harmony with all and sundry, no bad blood, no stress, no strife.
From the recent happenings in the world today; the incessant banditry country in my country, Nigeria.
The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has claimed so many lives, lots of people, and families that have been torn apart.
All this is because of the absence of peace. Don’t even get me started on the continuous gun violence in the United States, what about Yemen?
There’s so much trouble in the world that it is almost impossible to believe that the entire world would one day go through 24 complete hours in peace.
In my opinion, one of the greatest achievements the world will ever know is the ability for diverse nations to co-exist without strife. So far, it has proven to be one of the most difficult feats.
Peace is so fragile that it requires a lot of time and effort to sustain it. For instance, a military may have to be deployed to maintain peace just to ensure that there are no conflicts in selected areas.
We as a generation need to fight for peace in order to establish a world where we can live in without wars just as wrote in I dream of a world without wars
I dream of a world without wars! 🌍🙏🏼
world peace 🕊
So I want peace, tranquility.
What should we do to have peace?
First, we need to check ourselves. The existence of peace is dependent on our ability to co-exist without breathing down each other's necks.
Peace is not solely the responsibility of the government, religious leaders, or monks; It is a collective responsibility.
Peace will elude you if you are constantly seeking trouble or strife. Our elders say;
“Pikin wey no let him mama sleep, hin sef no go sleep”
Simply put,
A child who has denied his mother of sleep will also not find sleep”
Peace is beneficial to each of us for our own well-being; peace in our homes, at work, and in social gatherings, all begin with us.
Major Keys to Peace
-Be in the moment
A lot of times we focus on how much pain we felt or how broken we were in the past that which makes it difficult to move on.
Being upset about a past that we cannot change, or the future is counter-productive. You are simply depriving yourself of peace.
Over time I have learned to filter my thoughts. I mentally block off whatever puts me in a troubled state. Instead, I focus on the things that make me feel better. You can try that too.
-Forgive
If we hold on to a grudge, we are the ones who suffer the consequences. Forgiving is more of a gift to you than to the offender.
Thank you!
