This is a pretty big month for me. At some point during the month of May, I roll the human odometer over to that dreaded half century mark. I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. It's not so much that I am dreading it, I just know that from this point forward things will likely get harder. It's one of those facts of life. I'll do my best to keep my health in check, but you just never know. Friends and family will start passing away, and the days, months, and years will seem to go by at a breakneck speed.
I got my welcome (please sign up for us) letter in the mail from AARP the other day. After some great advice from my brother in law and , I will not be signing up for it. It's hard to believe we are almost halfway through 2026 at this point. I really prayed things were going to be different this year. Perhaps a bull market... I know what I didn't pray for was $5 a gallon gas and another war over in the Middle East. Oye!
So I did the power up thing on HIVE Power Up Day. I also powered up about half of the amount on my account. You should check that one out if you like some fun personal sports content. I likely could have powered up a lot more on my main account, but I am really hoping the price of HIVE will eventually go back up and I can move some of my liquid HIVE into HBD.
I'll also probably move a little bit of it off chain to invest in either OmenX or GoMining. I haven't quite decided yet. I think OmenX is more of a gamble, but they have some exciting stuff coming out soon that I am kind of interested in.
Splinterlands
It was the end of the season on Splinterlands and though I did about the same as I usually do in Wild, Frontier was a new experience for me. I was able to work my way up to Silver I with the cards that I have, but towards the end of the season I hit a brick wall and racked up a streak of losses that almost knocked me out of that tier. I was chasing the daily quest rewards, so about two days before the end of the season I just quit playing. I didn't want to risk getting sent back down to Silver II.
I expect things will be a bit competitive at the beginning of this season, but then eventually the hardcore players will move on and I will hopefully be able to make some progress and slide into the Gold tier if I am lucky. We will see. It looks like I have about six SPS proposals that I need to review and I also need to pay my bill to Monster Market for hosting my SPS Validator Node. Give me a vote if you haven't already! Please!
I just realized, I never shared these photos from this weekend when my wife and I were down in Ohio celebrating her sisters 50th birthday. We went to a pretty cool bar called "Missing Jimmy's" that I have written about before. They have a little party room where my brother in law planned a surprise party for her. We had some good drinks and a nice little pizza with garlic aioli, sausage, mushrooms, and onions. It was delicious.
NuScale
There's been a bit of big news with my favorite Small Modular Nuclear Reactor Stock lately. While their earnings report was not that great, the price of the stock has recovered a bit in the past couple of weeks. Part of that is due in part to Fluor vacating their position in the stock. I'm not sure why that is a good thing, but investors seem to think it is. I also saw the news yesterday that SMR is looking to build a facility in Texas. I think right now it is just a training facility, but this could be a good step towards them actually producing a product now. This isn't financial advice, but I still think SMR is a good buy right now. Especially with the price back down around $10.
Good as Gold?
My KGC or Kinross Gold Corporation stock doesn't seem to be doing too well over the past month. I think that probably ties together with the general slide or sideways movement precious metals have been on after that dramatic rise earlier in the year. I still think it's a good hold and I am not too mad about where it sits right now. Traditional investments like this don't really worry me too much in general. There is just too much money tied up in them by the powers that be. I know that barring some kind of natural disaster they are likely going to recover even if they take small dips.
Speaking of gold though, Apple announced their earnings per share the other day and it was something like $2 per share. I think the big wigs adjusted it to just below $2, but it's basically $2. While Apple used to be the big dog on the block, it appears that NVIDIA is the real darling now. Perhaps NVIDIA is the stock equivalent of platinum and Apple is gold. I don't know who that leave in the silver spot? I'd say Tesla, but they seem bigger than that.
I've got an exciting weekend ahead and I can't wait to share it with you when I get back next week. May is here! Are you ready?
