One Monday evening, I decided to step on some fresh air after long hours of caregiving. My little boys clung to me and I was forced to carry them alongside. My alone moment suddenly changed to a trio (a four year old and 11 months old pair). We finally got to a nice place and choosed a safe space for us. Everything was going smoothly until a man in his late forties walked in. He ignored everyone and walked up to our table area, pushed it and turn the fan to face only him.
Next thing, my little ones became uncomfortable and started disturbing. I politely told him that I choosed the spot at the rear so my children don't disturb any other people. I was being thoughtful about it. The man acted as if I was not talking to him. Next thing, I was being asked to move forward. I stood my grounds and said no. I was here earlier with my kids, there are other empty table spots with double ventilation devices. This spot can help me manage my kids better. The man started bragging about all the worth he had and I just held my stand up high as well. When he noticed I would not move. He packed his stuff and asked me to choose a spot for him, I pointed at a table and said to him if I were to be alone that's better. He smiled back and went to that table.
When he sat down, he turned around and said to me "you are an adamant rockie"
I said to him "A king feels safe and relaxed only in his palace" when you go to a public space, you share whatever is there. It's never your house for you to privatize anything.
He replied with "thank you, young old boys mummy"
I ended up laughing loud. He asked me what i ordered "I said Edikang ikong soup with wraps of fufu"
At the end, peace and friendship came out of chaotic moment. Did I really enjoy the evening, yes but the mummy's patience almost snapped out. 😂😂😂Lol
