So remember when I mentioned buying plants after that rainy coffee evening? I said I’d organize them properly the next day and well, I actually did it! 🌸
Here’s how it’s looking now.
The two bromeliads are hanging from the railing and honestly they’re my favourite thing on this balcony right now. Those orange-red flowers against the open sky I could stare at them all day. Every time I step outside I look at them first. Just the way they hang there so confidently, I don’t know, it makes me happy for no big reason.
But the real surprise? My jasmine bloomed. 🌸
I knew it was coming because the buds were already forming when I bought it. But still, seeing it actually open up those tiny white flowers just sitting there perfectly I stood there for a few minutes just looking at it. And the smell. Oh the smell is something else. It’s not strong or overpowering, it’s that soft quiet kind of fragrance that you only notice when you’re close enough. The kind that makes you breathe a little slower without realizing it.
Then there’s my monstera adansonii in the green pot those holey leaves are so unique looking. People always stop and ask about this one whenever anyone visits. And the pothos, I have one variety actually, I have cut and set them in different pot. one with white and green marbled leaves and one that’s climbing and trailing its own way. Pothos are honestly perfect starter plants. They’re so forgiving. Forget to water them for a few days? They’re fine. Put them in low light? Also fine. They really don’t need much just a little water sometimes and they’re happy. Low maintenance, high reward my kind of plant. Perfect for people like me who love plants but also sometimes forget about them 😄
We called it money plant also, How nice it would be if it were really money🤑lol
Now see that last photo those empty pots? That’s not sad, that’s just future plant slots waiting to be filled.🕊️
I already have a list in my head. Portulika for sure I want some colour on this balcony. Thai beli because the fragrance is incredible. And tulsi because apart from being beautiful, tulsi is actually medicinal. Good for immunity, good for colds, good for just about everything. My mother always had tulsi at home and I think it’s time I carry that forward. Maybe a few more surprises in between depending on what catches my eye at the nursery.🪴
This balcony is a work in progress honestly. It’s small, it’s simple, it’s got mismatched pots and empty spaces still. But it’s mine and I love it and I spend more time out here than I probably should 😄
If you’re thinking about starting a balcony garden — just start. Even one pot. It changes something about how you start your mornings, I promise.
More plants coming soon. Watch this space 🌱
