Have you ever tried nasal rinsing?
For a long time, I watched my partner enthusiastically doing it while thinking, “Is it really that good?” I think I was still remembering that strange painful, uncomfortable feeling from getting pool water up my nose as a child.
But one day, I suddenly decided to try it myself ... and it felt surprisingly refreshing! Since then, I’ve been doing it from time to time. Earlier this year, I took an online breathing class, which made the idea that “breathing is meant to happen through the nose (mouth is more for eating)” really click for me. Since then, I’ve become much more conscious about nasal breathing in daily life.
To avoid the pain, the salt concentration is really important. A few times I made it too casually and immediately regretted it, but once I started measuring the salt properly with my accurate scale, I haven't have pain. Still it's not super comfortable though.
It’s also interesting how nasal rinse tools differ depending on the country. In Japan, minimal and smaller squeeze-type bottles seem more common, while in Germany a gravity-fed type where the water flows naturally with water pressure is common and the capacity is larger than Japanese ones.
This is also the season when I’m covered in pollen and grass from gardening, and wood dust from woodworking — in other words, the season for nasal rinsing.
I’ll probably do a refreshing wash again soon ☺️
Have a nice weekend, everyone!
