Hello all how are you all doing? This post will be my day on 22 November. I can't believe it's another Birthday for me but it's a big one age,50!
I was drinking my coffee this morning just like any other day and I get a text from my sister. The picture above was from her via a text. If you were a kid growing up in the United States you would have seen Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving a few times. I just never thought I was the same age as it, haha. I would have thought that was before me.
There's more things that are significant with my birthday. First off I was born on the 10th Anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Every birthday that is usually the first thing I see on the television. Another thing is I was born on Thanksgiving Day holiday here in the States.
The morning started off with some things to do. Number one was getting my son to basketball practice. Even though it's my birthday I worked around my son's schedule. It's something he's pretty passionate about so as a parent I have no problem supporting him no matter what day it is.
While he was at practice I had to finish packing up. We are going out of town for a few days to see my mother and sisters for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. They live about three hours away from me in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Once practice is over we go back home. He has to gather his things and take a shower. That's a good thing I don't think I could have dealt with his 17 year old smell in a car for 3 hours, haha.
A short drive but it really was brutal. This is because I was already feeling tired before it started. He didn't want to drive because he said his legs were tired from basketball practice. Either way I would have been awake. To stay awake I brought a coffee mug but that was gone within 30 minutes. So I jammed out to music tapping my fingers on the steering wheel and occasionally singing along. Son was out in the passenger seat before we even got out of the city limits π€
Once we arrived our destination I was greeted by my mother. It was around 3:00 p.m. and she just put some boxed lasagna she bought at store. My mother did not agree with the instructions on the box. It said if frozen (it was frozen) cook for 148 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The funny thing she called the manufacture to challenge the instructions. Not going to lie I got a good laugh out of this. They confirmed the instructions are correct.
Well the food was ok but it was not homemade quality. The appearance was not there and the pan it was in was burnt all the way around the edges making only the center part of the lasagne the real edible part. I guess Mom knows best and her instincts about the timing and temperature were spot on. She mentioned she wanted to call the manufacture back. I told her it's ok and not necessary because there is still plenty available to feed us. Even though it wasn't the best both my son and I got seconds.
A simple cake for my birthday just the way I like it. Of course my favorite an ice cream cake. Can't put candles on ice cream cake right? It saved money because the fire department didn't need to be on hand to put the fires out, haha.
Alright I had a small piece but don't bet on me that I didn't have another later that evening. The cake was a nice mixture of vanilla, chocolate, frosting, and small sliver trail of chocolate cake crumbles.
Both my sisters had to work late and didn't arrive until 6:30 or so. It was nice catching up and sharing older memories together. They wanted to know if I wanted to go bowling but I declined because I am having issues with my right shoulder. They stayed until about 9:30. A very simple birthday with just a handful of people, just the way I like it.
When I turned 30 I was thrown a surprise birthday party. Food was catered and there were about 50 guests. I went along with the flow but it's really something I don't like. I felt like I had to entertain everyone and really didn't have those family communications which I like to engage in.
Well I dug into some photo albums and found these two pictures. This is me enjoying some cake on my 4th birthday. Doesn't it scream seventies? I mean the walls have wall paper on them, haha.
Well here's an early photo of me. Let's have a little HBD fun and see how many can guess how many days old I am here. A 10 HBD prize pool to be split for the winning guesses if there's more than oneπ
This is all I have for you today. I didn't have a flashy birthday party but I really enjoyed it spending time with my mother, sisters, and son. The fun isn't over as I have Thanksgiving with them tomorrow.
Take care, be safe and enjoy what's left of the week π
