Y aunque mi mamá ya no está yo había tomado muchas fotos para compartir su proceso mientras estuvimos en el hospital. Y hoy pensando agradezco tanto estar aquí y haber llevado un diario de nuestras vidas y tener siempre esto aquí y tener muchas fotos de su vida de estos últimos años. Nunca nada te prepara para perder a los que amas y recordar todos los días que pasamos en el hospital no es fácil. Pero creo que nunca lo será, pues entramos al hospital con la esperanza de que ella pudiera vivir un poco más.
And even though my mom is no longer with us, I had taken many photos to share her journey while we were in the hospital. And today, reflecting on it, I'm so grateful to be here and to have kept a journal of our lives, to always have this with me, and to have so many photos of her life from these last few years. Nothing ever prepares you for losing those you love, and remembering all the days we spent in the hospital isn't easy. But I don't think it ever will be, because we went into the hospital hoping she could live a little longer.
La mañana del 23 de enero, no sabíamos que ese día ella iba a ingresar al hospital. Pero eso día nos dividimos en dos grupos ya que necesitábamos hacer lo del banco de sangre para conseguir la sangre para las transfusiones, así que está mañana lo primero que hicimos fue sacarle una muestra de sangre que yo me encargue de llevar al banco de sangre y ella se fue con una de mis tias y una prima al hospital ya que tenía la cita de la pre anestesia.
On the morning of January 23rd, we didn't know she was going to be admitted to the hospital that day. We split into two groups because we needed to go to the blood bank to get blood for transfusions. So, the first thing we did that morning was take a blood sample, which I took to the blood bank, and she went to the hospital with one of my aunts and a cousin for her pre-anesthesia appointment.
Lo del banco de sangre fue algo bastante rápido así que me fui al otro hospital para encontrarme con mi mamá, que le fue bastante bien con el anestesiólogo y ese día debíamos esperar que la doctora nos avisará ya que el caso de mi mamá iba a discusión y ellos decidirían que día la iban a operar.
The blood bank thing was pretty quick, so I went to the other hospital to meet my mom, who did quite well with the anesthesiologist, and that day we had to wait for the doctor to let us know since my mom's case was going to be discussed and they would decide what day they were going to operate on her.
A eso de las 4 de la tarde nos llamo la doctora que debíamos irnos al hospital para que admitieran a mi mamá ya que debía pasar el fin de semana en el hospital para que le hicieran exámenes y ver cómo estaba todo. Así que nos pusimos manos a la obra para preparar todas las cosas que debíamos llevarnos y una de mis tias nos busco y nos llevó hasta el hospital, al llegar al hospital había unas vírgenes y sanJose gregorio Hernández y le tome una foto a mi mamá al llegar y con la esperanza de que al salir le pudiéramos tomar otra foto en este lugar.
Around 4 pm, the doctor called us and told us we had to go to the hospital so my mom could be admitted. She needed to spend the weekend there for tests and to check on her condition. So we got to work preparing everything we needed to take, and one of my aunts picked us up and drove us to the hospital. When we arrived, there were statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint José Gregorio Hernández, and I took a picture of my mom as we arrived, hoping we could take another picture of her there when we left.
Al llegar a la habitación le colocamos las sábanas a la cama y mi mamá se acostó y yo siempre le decía para tomarnos fotos y así avisarle a nuestra familia que todo iba bien.
When we got to the room, we put the sheets on the bed and my mom lay down, and I kept telling her to take pictures so we could let our family know that everything was okay.
Y esa noche me quedé sola con ella en el hospital y en un momento los doctores me pidieron gasas y guantes que necesitaban para hacer el procedimiento de colocarle una vía central. Y aunque ya era de noche yo bajé rápido a la farmacia para comprar lo que necesitaban. Luego de llevarles eso me sacaron de la habitación para colocar la vía central y esto es un proceso invasivo como ellos dicen pero que ayudo mucho ya que mi mamá recibió mucho tratamiento y esto ayudó a que no la tuvieran que inyectar tanto. Luego de colocar la vía central le pidieron que le hiciéramos una placa, pero yo no sabía que había que hacerla justo en ese momento lo deje pasar y se la hicimos al día siguiente.
That night I was alone with her at the hospital, and at one point the doctors asked me for gauze and gloves they needed to insert a central line. Even though it was already night, I quickly went down to the pharmacy to buy what they needed. After I brought them what they needed, they took me out of the room to insert the line. It's an invasive procedure, as they say, but it helped a lot because my mother had received a lot of treatment, and this meant they didn't have to give her as many injections. After inserting the line, they asked us to take an X-ray, but I didn't know it was necessary at that moment, so I let it go and we did it the next day.
Y aunque ella como paciente tenia su cama los acompañantes teníamos todo un pocoas complicado para dormir, pero como yo lleve la silla de ruedas de mi mamá podía descansar un poco en esta silla. La habitación donde estuvo mi mamá tenía aire acondicionado y a diferencia de los demás que tenían calor nosotros teníamos mucho frío.
And although she, as a patient, had her own bed, it was a bit more difficult for us companions to sleep, but since I brought my mother's wheelchair, I could rest a little in it. The room where my mother was had air conditioning, and unlike everyone else who was hot, we were freezing.
