It all began on Sunday morning. A very cold and rainy morning. I journeyed back to my school after a long deliberation of either staying back home for a week so I could attend my cousin's wedding or travel back to school as the strike had been called off. The school calendar stated that we all should resume on Monday, 24th October, 2022. It also scheduled our second semester examination to commence on the 7th of November which is just two weeks after resumption. I thought of staying back so I could attend the wedding which is scheduled for this coming Saturday but something held me back.
I have a lot to cover as we have spent 8 months in the house. The school's management is trying to rush everything so we can return activities to normalcy and cover up all we couldn't do for the 8 months. I also thought about the intensive clean up I have to do in my room. How would I cope with all the stress and then try to cover up what I'll miss for the one week I would stay back in my hometown? I decided to resume on the date the school had fixed. I did this knowing that with or without me, the wedding would hold.
ME IN TRANSIT.
After a very long journey on Sunday, I still spent a great time at night cleaning. The entire house was a mess. I couldn't even try to sleep in it. There were cobwebs, cockroaches and ants in it. The house was extremely dusty too. I left some of my clothes hanging on my wall hanger before going home. It was covered in dust too. I had to wash everything including my plates, pots, dust pan, every single thing.
On Monday, I began house hunting. I needed to move to a new house. I didn't like where I lived before. The paint was peeling. Despite the fact that it was repainted recently, it just kept peeling. It made the house an eyesore. Everytime I swept, it would always still look unkempt because the walls wouldn't stop peeling.
I was spending a lot on water too. The house didn't have water flowing in it. I had to pay to fetch water.
I found a place in a different area which is also inside the school compound. It is a self contained apartment that has a room, a kitchen, a dressing room, a bathroom and a balcony. There's water over here and there's power supply. This was good enough for me. The person who occupied the house previously had just relocated to a new country. The house was a big mess!
I felt bad about all the cleaning. First I cleaned my previous house so I could at least move in my luggage as I have just returned after 8 months. Now I had to move out to a new house and still clean up someone else's mess. I had no choice though. When I was done, the house was as good as new.
On Tuesday, I went to a particular store to get a mattress. I didn't have one before now. I had a roommate and she had a mattress so we used to share. But she recently completed her school program so she moved out and took her belongings with her.
Shopping for a mattress wasn't easy. The major problem was the price. I was shown the 6 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches and 14 inches sized mattress. I opted for the 10 inches since I was going to lay it on the floor. I don't intend to get a bed stand for now. In order to not get cold easily as harmattan is fast approaching, I had to opt for the 10 inches. I got some bed sheets, pillow cases and I bought a pillow as well.
After that, I went to the market to buy other things like air freshener, dettol, izal, hangers, body spray etc. I found this beautiful store in the market. It had really nice products ranging from body lotions, deodorants, body sprays, hair shampoo, toothbrushes and lots more. So I went in and purchased a few things for myself.
I bought some underwear too. I couldn't resist taking pictures of this one. I got varieties of pants. I am one of the girls who hate to have their pant lines visible when they wear clothes so I bought some Gstrings. I settled for beautiful colours.
I was dead tired after everything but I was determined to finish up everything that has to do with the house on Tuesday and I did. It was past 1am when I finally finished. My apartment looks better now. I still need a few things like a wall hanger and bookshelf, and a reading chair/table. Gradually I'll get them all. One step at a time.
I rested Yesterday for the first time since school's resumption. I haven't really been involved in academic activities just yet, I only attended a few classes. I haven't even cooked since Sunday. Hopefully today I'll be able to do that. I have missed being in school, I've missed my friends. It's so good to have everyone back.
The school environment is quite bushy and unkempt but that's being taken care of currently. I could see the head of environmental cleanliness inspecting the cutting of the grasses a few days ago.
By next week, I believe everything will go back to normal.
I have decided to start writing about my school activities and experiences here on Hive and I am tagging it "diary of a school girl". Stay tuned for more updates.
Feel free to tell me all that has been happening with you recently. I'll be glad to read about them. Have a lovely day y'all.
