Pay day is the most important day of the month for salary workers. It’s mostly the last day or two of the month on which salary workers receive their salaries. Not only are salary workers happy on this day , their families as well and any other person who benefits from a salary worker. Growing up I used to be very happy about this day. It was the day I would pour out my needs at school to my dad. It was the day I would call my dad to complain for chop money in boarding school. Call him on the 25th day of the month when he hasn’t been paid yet and he’d use his anger on you😂. Even my school teachers moods easily switch depending on “paid” or “not paid yet” mood. With the paid mood, my mathematics teacher would say , “you all are lucky I’m paid today so no three homework for you. Instead I will just give you one homework for the weekend “.
It’s also the most busiest day in the bank. On this day, banking halls are choked including at the ATM. Even though technology has advanced a bit in Africa where we have many electronic ways to withdraw funds. People still want to come to the bank to withdraw. It’s very difficult to convince an African man who has already made up his mind about not using any of the electronic software.
Banks in Ghana are mostly opened by 8:30 officially for customers to come in. But on this day, even at 6am people are already at the entrance of the bank forming queues. Ghanaians are very funny. We understand that the system is very hot but why the rush? It isn’t free money shared outside of the bank. It’s the reward they have personally earned for themselves and hence no matter how long the money is left in their respective accounts, it’s always going to be there. No need for a rush. Everyone is definitely going to be served. After all they are the reasons we are here.
You will never know how hard and sacrificial it is to work in the bank especially on days like these. Staff have to sacrifice their lunch to eat later just to serve customers. On this day, people are violent in the banking halls. They are in a hurry to be served. The queue is so long that people try to skip the queue to be served faster. Which is very wrong. The security are around to enforce no cheating and no noise making in the bank.
Finally when the day is over, we are happy that we served everyone that was present. The peace of mind that comes with knowing that they can now pay their bills and provide for their family needs. Pay day is very necessary. Pay day is very important. I love pay days❤️
