The Rainstorm and Fire 🌀
Phew! The rain storm has gone, and the melted all of the snow. The temperature is up and down, and the weather is still unstable. On Friday night, I was busy working and typing my documents when I heard the big bang bang sound outside. The heavy rain was happening already, so I thought it was the thunder and lightning or something.
Then, I noticed that the lights were flickering. My dog was so alert. I took my earphones away and heard another big sound. My dog barked loudly, and the blackout happened. The heat pump, the dishwasher, the stove, everything stopped suddenly. I was kind of in shock, because I couldn't understand what exactly happened.
My husband just finished his shift online, and we could able to use our computers for a while due to the Wi-Fi batteries, so we were still confused about what happened outside.
The rain was so hard, and the sound was so loud outside. Then, I was still wondering about the big bang sound. I was discussing with my husband, and I saw a fire happening outside in the forest near our house. I could see it behind my husband. I shouted like 'Fire!' As soon as I said that, the tree crushed into the electric wire, and sparked again and again. The fire became bigger little by little. The spark was so light and made a big sound.
My husband immediately called 911, but the line was busy. We had to wait for a few minutes. The fire outside was continuously growing. I was so scared by the spark. I was especially worrying that the fire would come to our property.
There is a quite big main road in front of our property, and across from the forest, there is our driveway, and our wood shed is sitting there. So, I didn't want the wind to carry the fire to the woodshed. Luckily, the wind was strong, but the rain was so hard as well. Repeatedly, the spark was happening, and the rain was extinguishing the fire.
Finally, the fire engine and police car have arrived. The town firefighter is a volunteer, so I was worrying about their busy schedule. They closed the road and stayed for a few hours until the fire was managed.
After we noticed that the fire situation was settle down, I worried about the internet connection... Our work schedule was pretty packed, so we wanted to know the power outage condition. We called and checked the restoration schedule, and heard the recovery time was late at night.
I tried to sleep earlier because I was still in shock, a bit cold, and didn't want to think about the no Wi-Fi situation. However, after I slept for a while, the situation hadn't changed. We still had a power outage, the fire engine and police were gone, and I couldn't check e-mails at all. My husband made a fire for our wood stove, so the temperature was warm inside the house.
I had a dream about the power coming back! However, the situation never changed after I was awake. I couldn't sleep well due to anxiety. I didn't want to miss my appointment without telling. The restoration time was arranged due to the strong wind and rain. The sound of rain rainstorm was so noisy. I woke up at around 4 am. It was still dark. My dog looked so happy eating an early breakfast. He is forever forever-happy boy. I made hot tea using our emergency portable stove. The sound of the kettle was so noisy, because I didn't hear any sound except the strong wind and rain outside.
I felt so sad because we just recovered from the well water issue, and I thought we didn't need to have a survival lifestyle anymore this year. Although the survival lifestyle would continue if the power outage continues longer, even though the restoration is scheduled. I can't believe the power recovery schedule that it often behind schedule.
Our house roof and walls were safe. Our property trees were also fine, but some of our neighbours' trees fell down. We couldn't have internet until the afternoon, so we went to town and checked our emails, and charged our devices at the library. People were talking about the storm there.
Finally, my husband noticed and checked that our power had come back on, so we went home quickly. My dog was waiting in the bright house. Yes, we have power again! I appreciate it so much. I feel sorry for people who still don't have power. There are quite many houses still facing the power outage issues. I hope that their situation will improve before Christmas for them.

🌀 暴風雨と火災
ふう…。嵐は過ぎ去って、雪はすっかり溶けてしまいました。気温は上がったり下がったりで、天候はまだ不安定です。金曜日の夜、仕事の書類を作成していると、外から「ドーン、ドーン」という大きな音が聞こえてきました。すでに激しい雨が降っていたので、雷の音だろうと思っていました。
すると、家の明かりがチカチカし始めました。愛犬はすぐに警戒モードに入っていました。イヤホンを外してみると、もう一度大きな音を聞きました。犬が激しく吠え、その直後に停電が起こりました。エアコン、食洗機、コンロ…すべてが突然止まり、何が起きたのか理解できず、私は軽いショック状態でした。
ちょうど主人がオンラインでの仕事を終えたところでした。Wi-Fiのバッテリーのおかげでしばらくはパソコンを使えたため、外で何が起きているのかはっきりとわからず、なおさら混乱していました。
雨はさらに激しく、外の音もとても大きくなっていました。私は、しばらくあの「ドーン」という音が何だったのか考えていました。夫と話している最中、家の近くの森で火が出ているのに気づきました。主人の背後に見えたのです。
私は思わず「火事！」と叫びました。その直後、木が電線に倒れ込み、バチバチと何度も火花が散りました。火は少しずつ大きくなり、とても明るく、大きな音を立てていました。
主人はすぐに９１１に電話しましたが、回線が混み合っていて、数分待たなければなりませんでした。火は外で広がり続け、特に火花が怖く、火が私たちの敷地に飛び移るのではないかと不安になりました。
敷地の前には比較的大きな幹線道路があり、家の向かい側の森には森があります。こちら側には私たちの私道と薪小屋があります。風で火が薪小屋の方へ運ばれないか、とても心配でした。幸いなことに、風は強かったものの、雨も非常に激しく、火花が出るたびに雨が火を消してくれていました。
やがて、消防車とパトカーが到着しました。町の消防士さんたちはボランティアなので、忙しさを思うと心配でした。道路は封鎖され、火が収まるまで数時間、その場に待機してくれました。
火の状況が落ち着いたとわかってから、今度はインターネットのことが気になり始めました。仕事の予定が詰まっていたため、停電の復旧状況を確認しました。電話で問い合わせると、復旧は夜遅くになるとのことでした。
まだ動揺して寒さも感じていたので、Wi-Fiが使えない状況を考えないよう、早めに寝ることにしました。でも、少し眠ったあとも状況は変わらず、停電は続き、消防車と警察もすでに去っていて、メールも確認できませんでした。主人が薪ストーブに火を入れてくれたので、家の中は暖かくなりました。
電気が戻る夢を見ましたが、目が覚めても現実は変わっていませんでした。不安でよく眠れず、連絡なしで約束を欠席してしまうことが気がかりでした。強風と豪雨の影響で復旧予定は何度も変わり、嵐の音はとても大きかったです。午前４時ごろに目が覚めると、外はまだ真っ暗でした。愛犬は早朝ごはんを嬉しそうに食べていました。本当にいつも幸せそうな子です。非常用の携帯コンロでお湯を沸かし、お茶を入れました。外の風と雨の音しか聞こえない中、やかんの音がやけに大きく感じられました。
井戸水のトラブルがやっと解決したばかりだったので、今年はもうサバイバル生活をしなくて済むと思っていました。でも、停電が長引けば、復旧予定があってもその生活は続きます。電気復旧予定が何度も遅れるので、うかうかと信じられません。
家の屋根や壁は無事で、敷地内の木々も問題ありませんでしたが、近所では倒木がいくつもありました。午後までインターネットが使えなかったため、町へ行き、図書館でメールを確認し、機器の充電をしました。そこでは、多くの人が嵐の話をしていました。
その後、主人が電気が復旧したことに気づき、急いで家に戻りました。明るくなった家の中で、愛犬が私たちを待っていました。電気が戻ったのです。心からありがたいと感じました。まだ停電が続いている方々のことを思うと、胸が痛みます。多くの家が今も停電の問題を抱えています。どうか、クリスマス前には状況が改善しますように。
