One of the classy things I had wanted to do for a long time was visit a rooftopâor in simpler terms, a bar on a terrace. Buenos Aires could be the perfect city for this, but of course they know it, and the prices to enjoy this experience are quite high. Luckily, and without planning it too much, the opportunity came up in a much more affordable way during my trip to Paraguay, where even an outing like this at a very low cost was possible đ.
My friend Noe, who had been in the city of AsunciĂłn, Paraguay for a month, told me she had been waiting for me to go to a great place during my stay. It was a rooftop called Ko'Ape, very close to where our hostel was. She told me that other guests had mentioned how nice it was and that it would be a good idea to go check it out. At first I was worried because I thought it would be expensive, but they had told her that even the prices were good.
This place was located on the terrace of a 14-story building, and to enter, you had to pay an entrance fee of 20,000 guaranĂes, something like $4. I couldnât believe how cheap that was for visiting a place like thisâin Buenos Aires, you wouldnât even be able to buy a bottle of water for that price. When we went in, the atmosphere was very calm and elegant, so much so that I regretted not having a nice dress or sandals with me. Instead, I basically had to go in my trekking clothes, but either way, we were there.
The bar had a large indoor area, but without a doubt the best part was going outside to enjoy the views of the city. Seeing AsunciĂłn from above at night was incredibleâthe view was almost 360°, so you could see in every direction. The weather was also perfect to be outside, so most people were gathered there. I loved being there and finally seeing what these exclusive places are like.
Of course, Noe and I had something to drink and eat, because the menu was actually cheap. The beers were 2 for 25,000 guaranĂes, about $2.5 each. Once again, I was amazed by these prices because in Buenos Aires you would never find them in a place like that. We each had two beers, and also tried some fried cassava with cheese, which were really good. The outing was perfect, and we toasted to more travels.
Noe and I got along well from the very first day we met while volunteering at a hostel in Salta. I really enjoyed meeting up with her again in Paraguay, where we kept exploring and adding new anecdotes. Having an almost-local guide in the city was very helpful, and she was great company during my stay in the neighboring country. I hope I can see her again and keep having these outings that always turn out to be so unique â€ïž.
