This is the sixth consecutive day of temperatures above 104 F and it seems that we will not have a break until tomorrow, when a little rain will appear but in any case the mark of our thermometers will not drop so much. Although this seems like a relief at first glance, I suspect it will be worse because heat and humidity is much worse than just heat. I know it's summer and this is to be expected, but really this is being a record since at least the city of Buenos Aires did not record these values for at least 30 years 🥺.
Este es el sexto día consecutivo de temperatura por encima de los 40°C y parece que no tendremos respiro sino hasta mañana, en donde un poco de lluvia va a aparecer pero de todos modos no descenderá tanto la marca de nuestros termómetros. Aunque esto parezca un alivio a simple vista, sospecho que será peor porque calor y humedad es mucho peor que solo calor. Ya sé que es verano y esto es esperable, pero de verdad esto está siendo un record ya que al menos la ciudad de Buenos Aires no registraba estos valores hace por lo menos 30 años 🥺.
Many lucky people have been able to escape to the beach this week, where it's still as hot as here but at least they have the sea to cool off. Others, on the other hand, stay in our homes, leaving everything in the hands of our humble fans or, in the best of cases, air conditioners. Luckily in the area where I live there have been no power outages, but a large part of the city center has been without power for several days due to overloads. I suppose that in this situation being a little far from the center was something beneficial.
Muchos afortunados han podido escaparse a la playa en esta semana, donde igual hace el mismo calor que acá pero por lo menos tienen el mar oara refrescarse. Otros en cambio nos quedamos en nuestras casas dejando todo en manos de nuestros humildes ventiladores o, en el mejor de los casos, aires acondicionados. Por suerte en la zona donde yo vivo no han habido cortes energéticos, pero en gran parte del centro de la ciudad estan sin luz hace varios días debido a las sobrecargas. Supongo que en esta situación estar un poco alejada del centro fue algo benéfico.
All these days we stayed quite hydrated and showered several times a day, even though the cold water stream comes out completely hot. Unfortunately this year we cannot build our pool as there is no space in our patio due to construction and the water pressure is very poor: it would take several days to fully charge it and instead we prefer to save water for drinking and bathing.
Todos estos días nos mantuvimos bastante hidratados y nos duchamos varias veces por día, a pesar de que la corriente de agua fría sale completamente caliente. Desafortunadamente este año no podemos armar nuestra pileta ya que no hay espacio en nuestro patio debido a una construcción y a que la presión de agua es muy pobre: tardaríamos varios días en cargarla por completo y en lugar de eso preferimos ahorrar agua para beber y bañarnos.
The ones that are also suffering too much are our cats and dogs: they spend all day indoors since the patio floor is very hot even under the trees. Of course we take care that they do not lack water and even the cats have let us wet them a little. That is the proof that they are really suffering from these high temperatures!
Los que también estan sufriendo demasiado son nuestros gatos y perros: ellos se la pasan todo el día adentro ya que el piso de patio esta muy caliente incluso debajo de los árboles. Por supuesto nos encargamos de que no les falte el agua e incluso los gatos han dejado que los mojemos un poco. ¡Esa es la prueba de que de verdad estan padeciendo estas altas temperaturas!
Today we are having a wind chill of 115 F. You cannot go outside because the heat emanates from the asphalt and the sun burns you in a few minutes and leaves your skin marked. Luckily I took the opportunity to do all my shopping around 7 PM when the sun goes down a bit so I didn't have to go out at all. I was also able to wash my clothes in anticipation of all the rainy days to come. I think it will be two full weeks of lockdown, one for heat and one for water.
Hoy estamos teniendo una sensación térmica de 46°C. No se puede salir a la calle porque el calor emana desde el asfalto y el sol te quema a los pocos minutos y te deja la piel marcada. Por suerte aproveché para hacer todas mis compras alrededor de las 7 PM cuando el sol baja un poco así después no tenía que salir para nada. También pude lavar mi ropa anticipandome a todos los días de lluvia que se vienen. Creo que serán dos semanas completas de encierro, una por calor y otra por agua.
This heat wave is being suffered by the whole country. Buenos Aires is in the center of the country and we are having temperatures of these magnitudes, I cannot imagine what those who live in the north must be going through, where they always suffer worse from the heat. I, like everyone here, have our hopes pinned on the rain forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully it will bring a bit of calm, especially in those areas that are already suffering from drought. Meanwhile, surviving with the fans at maximum power.
Esta ola de calor la está sufriendo todo el país. Buenos Aires queda en el centro del país y estamos teniendo temperaturas de estas magnitudes, no me imagino lo que deben estar pasando aquellos que viven en el norte donde siempre sufren peor el calor. Yo, al igual que todo el mundo acá, tenemos nuestras esperanzas puestas en la lluvia pronósticada para mañana. Ojalá traiga un poco de calma, sobretodo en aquellas áreas que ya estan sufriendo sequías. Mientras tanto, sobreviviendo con los ventiladores a la máxima potencia.
