The price of candles have nearly doubled on store shelves in this area. The nightly lighting of a candle or two has become a “practice.” Not so much a ritual, but not a thoughtless habit either. It’s not to light the room, the screen does a good job of that. I do like the scent though. It’s just subtle enough to sense. It’s certainly not to warm the place up. Nights here these days are in the upper 70s.

It’s something I do because I like it. Or maybe there’s something deeper. Next time I visit the VA, perhaps I will bring it up. [That’s a joke.]

Watching prices of retail commodities is, for your humble vagabond, kind of like playing the stock market. I won’t, however, be flipping jars of peanut butter, boxes of tea bags, or candles, to turn a profit. Saving money, for your boy and Poor Richard, is as good as earning money.

“A penny saved, is a penny earned.” We don’t use credit cards to purchase consumables. That goes for candles and candies.

We walk the minimalist talk. Speaking of walking, today’s adventure offers a bit of a behind the screens peek at the tenacity, determination and endurance of this vessel. We want what we want and we will do what’s necessary to acquire it. Whatever it is at the time. These wants, however, are not what attracts herds of sheeple to the fields. This vagabond lifestyle is largely stress-free, and flowing because of strategies and disciplines that a lot of pundits advocate, but very few humans actually adopt.

Speaking of which, the newly-awakened neo-gurus seem to have one aspect in common. They have usually amassed an “impressive” amount of material wealth, which affords them the opportunity to, ostensibly “off-grid” themselves and appear to give up the hustle-culture to which they have dedicated their vessels in past times.

Maybe your boy is guilty of this? On second thought, no. The details of this slide from one century to the next will be revealed when our next project gets going. It’s not the glamorous life. But who needs glam, when you’ve got serenity.

Candles Economics.
Most of this story is told in today’s episode. It was recorded in the street-studio on the way back from a shopping excursion that turned out to be more excursion than shopping.

When we got back we researched the candle brand and looked up where else they might be sold. Turns out the brand is specifically manufactured for the Dollar General stores, but Walmart also carries them. We had a few items we wanted to check out at Wallyworld, so we hopped a bus and headed out the next day.

Walmart’s shelves were well-stocked but nothing in their candle inventory rang our bell. The prices, despite Walmart’s reputation, were not competitive. We found a couple of pieces that would due. One was even on sale. Half price.

At the end of the day, Mind realized that, “We have better options in our own neighborhood.” Despite the absence of “The General.”
We have since checked some other spots and found a line of wood-wick candles that do the job. We may take another walk out to DG, for the exercise – we basically walk anywhere we can within a 4-5 mile round trip – out of curiosity, and to test our luck.

Candles Economics is an extension of “Vagabond Economics.” There are several layers to it that these digits are too weary to peck out. Maybe we will address this strategy in future episodes. Just say the word.
