I began a little project, and like many of my projects, it started with me trying to help.
You see, for a while now my wife has been asking me about hosting websites, website builders, and domain management. I’ve been promising to help. But just like the meme of the husband who takes months to fix a leaky sink, I’m only now getting around to it.
As with most things I do these days, I’m of course trying to tie it to Hive, and I think I have a pretty good idea of how to do it. Now, I know Engrave exists, and my little project probably isn’t going to reach those altitudes, but maybe it doesn’t have to.
Is there an audience for it? Maybe. Maybe not.
I may be silly for thinking this way, but the explorer in me will make sure I finish it anyway. On the bright side, my wife will be the first user, so there’s already a small win in the bag.
The idea is simple: a site builder. A simple way for anyone to deploy their own website, maybe even host it on Vercel for free.
What would this accomplish?
Well, maybe someone wants a quick landing page for a project. Maybe someone wants something more interesting than a plain link on a business card. Maybe someone just wants a simple place on the internet that’s theirs.
I’m not entirely sure yet.
But I can certainly see myself using something like this if I wanted to slap a page together quickly and freely.
With all that said, my little project doesn’t currently have the Hive elements connected to it. That’s because this didn’t begin as a Hive project. It’s just going to end up becoming one.
The idea would be that you could pick some articles, or maybe display your blog feed somewhere, with just a few drag-and-drops.
I’m saying all this as if it’s only going to take a few more hours, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t hit the real wall of difficulty yet.
There’s also an SDK floating around that could do a lot of the heavy lifting for me. I wish I could remember the username of the person who shared it. If someone remembers and drops a link, that would be lovely. If I can get my hands on that, then it’s game on like Donkey Kong in a day.
But I might just be a little too optimistic for my own good.
We’re currently sitting at 57 repositories inside Mantequilla-Soft, which is honestly a little crazy to me. But at the pace we’re going, it looks like we might hit 60 before next Sunday.
Almost as if the market isn’t bearish after all, right?
