I haven’t been posting as much this week—but not because I’ve been absent from the chain. As some of you might know, I’ve been heavily focused on a new feature, a new dApp… and it’s becoming something special.
Just yesterday, I was showing Hangouts to the Skatehive team, and Vlad mentioned he needed to be able to share his screen. Mind you, we had just been chatting on Discord, so the downgrade wasn’t exactly heartwarming.
I’ve said before that I’m trying to move people off Discord, so this morning I set out to make video a reality on Hangouts. And yes—as of today, select users (we’re still testing) can now do what can effectively be considered Zoom calls, including screen sharing with an audience. Hours of testing have already taken place, and I’m happy to report: the darn thing works—and it works well.
Who’d have thought?
What started as a small side project months ago is turning into a full-blown obsession. More than that, it’s becoming something I genuinely believe has immense potential. The only real requirement is creativity—and there’s plenty of that to go around.
Think about it: a musician could host a live performance. A community could present a new initiative. A podcaster could bring on guests and run interviews—all within our ecosystem. That’s powerful. Honestly, I’m having a hard time keeping my mind from racing with possibilities.
The next step is getting this feature working on 3Speak—not just Snapie—and then maybe convincing PeakD or Ecency to join in as well. If this becomes widespread—if it becomes the default—then I truly won’t care what happens to Discord anymore.
