By doing so, they earn names and praises from people. We see this in the lives of politicians. A majority of them are self-centered, but during the campaign, they would share food, give money, and alms to people just to win their hearts, but immediately they get what they want, you won't see that trait in them anymore.
Goodness doesn't seek validation, it doesn't call for recognition, it is something done naturally out of love and the fear of God, and not to build any secret advantage.
Each time I hear people saying things like “I am helping people because I don't know what tomorrow holds, they might be of help to me too,” I wonder how our hearts have gotten to that point.
Can't we get out of a clean and pure heart, just help people, or do something without expecting anything in return? Must nature or people bless us for being good?
Sometimes I ask myself the question, “What if there is no reward for being good, and evil has zero consequences, how many people will still be good?”
This is where you will know whether you are truly good or you are just trying to use goodness to your advantage.
I don't believe that being good is inherent in anyone. It is something that is built like any other character.
The more you deliberately work on it, the easier it becomes for you to execute, and the more it becomes a part of you.
It is not a gift, it is not reserved for a certain class of people, it's for anyone who decides to build it.
This is why a person can be evil and be transformed into a good person if he or she decides to embrace light by choosing to let go of his or her evil ways and walk on the path of goodness.
