Working with people has taught me a lot, from patience, working under pressure, meeting targets, going outside your comfort zone just to make your employees happy to helping your colleagues, enduring insults from your superiors and also from colleagues. I will be talking about the different places I've worked so far and the positions held.
The first place I got to work after service was at a restaurant as a customer care representative. Some people might feel working as a customer care is one of the easiest job as a restaurant but believe me when I say it isn't. Working as a customer care representative comes with daily insult from your boss and customers and you make sure to smile all through and not reply back. I remember when I wanted to reply a customer.rudely because she was inconsiderate and was shouting, but I had to hold back and smile, plead with her and ensure that everything went back to normal and I also ensured she didn't go with a heavy heart, had to buy her a complimentary drink with my money which I later got queried for. Now, one thing I got to understand is, working with humans is one of the hardest things one could ever do in the sense that you don't know what you will do that will satisfy them, you just have to do your job and not get on anyone's bad book and ensure timely delivery of food. I worked as a customer care for 3 months and I gained a lot of experiences from there.
The second place I worked at was a saloon as a Nail technician and a pedicurist. This was also an eye opener for me and it tasted my patience and speed when attending to customers. Working for a straight 12 hours and sometimes sleepovers because of late clients
Working as a nail technician didn't really pay off here because no clients come in for their nails which made my work rusty and my speed was slow. Pedicure moved more because People want to relax and get this baby treatment for their feet and they tend to come back because I'm good at massaging their feet to the point of relaxation and at the end of the day I get tipped. Management was changed and rules were changed, targets per week became compulsory and when we couldn't meet up, everyone was laid off.
This brings me to the third place I'm currently working also as a Pedicurist, nail technician and and an assistant Braider. I got the offer begining of the year and I must say, it has been a blessing so far. I get to meet new people too, my skills gets to improve because clients troop in even after closing time. Working as a nail technician here has not been up to 2 weeks but my work has improved a lot and also I get to lock people's hair and braid too. I get to learn free facials, something you don't get to learn for free in other places. I'm the type of person that is free to learning new handworks and also get to help where I'm working.
During my service year, I worked as a finance assistant in an NGO. This is one of the most challenging positions ever. Creating mandates, updating them, taking them to bank, creating cash book, ensuring it balance with the bank statements, reconciling the account,I never got to learn it much due to my boss busy schedules but I learnt the few he taught me and I made sure to use them. I also learnt how to write payment vouchers and make payment to all staffs and vendors. This was my best honestly and I'm happy I could work as a finance assistant for once.
So far so good, I've worked at 4 places and I must say, I've learnt a lot and I'm still learning. I learnt patience especially and also I learnt how to communicate with people. I've always found it hard communicating with strangers, though it's still not easy but I'm not as uptight as before and I believe this is not the end of me learning and moving forward.
