Giving up on giving up.
Had to think about this one. In the end I think I would break it into two parts.
First part: Stamina and perseverance. Giving up because something is difficult is a terrible idea. Giving up because it is hard is the sign you are destined to lose. Sticking with something until its logical conclusion is something I would absolutely hold to.
but
Second part: Sometimes the logical conclusion isn't what you hoped it would be. If you work hard towards something only to figure out that it (a) isn't what you want (b) isn't actually attainable or (c) will cost far more than its worth? Then there is nothing wrong with stopping, thinking, and deciding to go down another path.
I believe it was Bruce Lee who said "be like water".... if one path isn't going to work don't be so rigid that you refuse to go down another path.
Or as my mom would tell me. If one door closes, look for the window.
In short.....
"give up on giving up" works very well as a statement to tell yourself to persevere when things get difficult. To forget about quitting when times get tough.
but always remember about the sunk cost fallacy.
Just because you spend a dollar on something doesn't mean you should keep sinking more and more money into it. Spending a year on a relationship that isn't working doesn't mean you have to spend ten more.
Chasing bad relationships, unrealistic goals, or foolish ambition can cost far more than its worth.
Just my quick thoughts.
