Hello Hive family and the entire Hive-Reachout community. Welcome once again to my space and to another exciting episode of the hive reachout weekly prompt 44 topic which is tagged "My favourite subject in school".
I believe that everyone has that special subject they love more than other subjects in class that even if the class is moody or uninteresting that day, as long as is that subject, their mood will come alive.
My favourite subject was Mathematics. Yes!!! I'm talking about the almighty mathematics most students are afraid of alot.
Right from primary school, my best subject was Mathematics and my best staffs were the mathematics teachers😂. The reason why mathematics became my favourite subject was as a result of the encounter I had with my mathematics class teacher when I was in elementary school.
Back then in elementary classes I was known to be among the dullest, unserious, brainless student in class. I use to take the least position in results and most staffs in school will always make fun of us the brainless ones and be uttering out statements like "here are the brainless ones in class, no matter what you do or how you teach them, they will never learn or understand. One even told me, your parent are wasting their resources on you.
But my mathematics teacher (Mr. Bolus) was different from the rest of the staffs who always make fun of us in class. He will always encourage us and me in particular that no one is brainless or dull, we are all unique, if only we can realise our potentials, we will know that we are not brainless. He even reported some of the staffs that were using negative statement on student in class to the admins of the school.
Because his house was not far from where I was living, he decided to offer a helping hand by taking me extra lessons after school at his free will, so anytime I returned from school, after taking my bath, eating and resting a bit, I will go to his house for the lesson. With time I started picking up in his subject (mathematics) and other subjects. Because I don't want his effort to be in vain, I decided to put more interest in mathematics than other subjects. Sometimes he teach me the topic he will teach in class ahead of time so that when he came to class it won't be a new topic to me again and if he is asking any question in class, I will be the first to answer. With time I got to know mathematics more than other subjects.
Why I fell in love with mathematics
more...
My school always organise an end of the year party for students, teachers and parents. During the party, the school will called out the names of best student in each subject and the student will be presented with a gift. During one of the party, the coordinator was calling out names of best students in each subject and when he got to mathematics, he called out my name. Every one was surprised, my classmate, some staffs and even my parent because someone who was assumed to be among the dull students in class, came out among the best student in a subject and even excel in other subjects.
Some staff were given the opportunity to speak to the audience and my mathematics teacher was among them. He came up and began to speak and made a statement "no student is dull or brainless and every student need a little push and encouragement from we the teachers and parents" making reference to me. Since then I began to excel in different subject but mathematics became my best subject because of my teacher's effort. I've represented my school in a cowbell mathematics competition and in an Olympic mathematics competition.
I want to use the medium to encourage anyone who is a teacher to please abstain from discouraging students with hurtful negative words like "you are too dull, you can among to anything, your parent are wasting their resources on you". Those words can damage or create a negative impression on some students and can live a long lasting mark on them if cares is not taken. Most students spend time with the teachers in school than even the time they spend with their parents. Be a source of motivation to the student's just like my mathematics teacher and who knows, you might bring out the uniqueness and potentials within a student who is assumed to be dull.
Thanks for passing by and reading, do
have a wonderful day. Peace!!!!
