This topic is a very deep one. The world we live in at the moment is nothing to compared to what we've seen d experienced in the past. We now live in a world where parents are afraid to allow their children travel for the fear of being kidnapped, not just the children, even the adult's are scared of traveling. We live in a world where when you're going home to meet your parents or celebrate with them, you would prefer to not inform them ahead, not because you want to surprise them, but because you don't want them to feel restless and anxious for your safe trip.
We live in a world where banditry, bombings, kidnappings and all now looks normal. It's already so much that we've now gotten used to it. We don't even complain like before, we hear it, we see it, we sigh and then we love on. We live in a world where nations are not fighting each other which is now leading to family being separate and homes being destroyed.
If you're a Nigerian, I'm sure you will relate well with me. This is our reality at the moment. This is not just news, this are things happening around us, things that we see. I can even say the news headlines lie at times, as they give a more suitable news to make it seem as if the harm done by this terrorist aren't much. But we all can see these things, we see mothers wailing by our side because her child was kidnapped, we see children crying because their mother was involved in a bomb blast, and we see how the lives of our youths are being cut short, youths that we say are leaders of tomorrow.
And I can't deny that I've asked myself that question in the prompt more than a thousand times. Are these things supposed to be happening? Is this supposed to be our reality? Is the world supposed to be this bad/dark/evil?
But, my own belief is that good can never succumb to bad, I mean evil can never be stronger than good. I believe the world can heal, that this word can still birth new and good things, that everything can still change and turnaround for good. But the truth is that that change, and that healing will start first from us, not form the government or our leaders, the citizens need to change their mindset too, we need to reorientate ourselves, we need to let go of bad vices and attitudes, we need to be more humane, more kinder and more loving. We need to start loving our neighbors like ourselves, we need to let go of bias, we need to come together as one that we are and embrace one another.
And when I say the change will start with us and not from our leaders, I am not saying they don't have their own part to play too. They do. Our leaders need to stop using us as a tool to, I mean they should value human lives and not endanger out lives at the expense of their own political ambitions and all. Our leaders as well should be more humane and remember that they are meant to serve us, and that every policy they make should favour the citizens and not to satisfy their own selfish interests.
Darkness hasn't taken over us totally, evil hasn't prevailed over us, and I believe that it won't. We are till seeing little sparks of light and of love and that made me feel a little better, there's still the show of love and compassion amidst us and that's enough to keep motivating us and believing that it will be well someday. Healing the world is possible, though it sounds big and of a truth, it is. But then, it is possible.
