First off, what is social media? Even though it sounds simple, it is one of the questions to be answered in this prompt. Social media is that platform that gives room to people to connect, communicate, interact, and also share informations. And there are different and various social media handles, talk of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Tiktok,... And all.
Now Charity, charity is the act of helping those that are in need, either in cash or in kind(food, clothes, scholarship...), and all forms of support.
So, talking about the influence of social Media on charity, I believe the media has had a very great and positive impact on #charity. A lot of people who are suffering and going through hard times have been able to receive help, all because the media has made it easy for them to be seen, reached, and helped. And its something we all can see, we can all testify to how a single post about the situation of a person can gather lot's of engagement and massive donations. And this has also helped a lot of charity organizations/foundations to be recognized and reach/touch more lives.
But then, the media as we all know are being used for various things, talk of both good and bad. We've seen and heard how people scam each other all in the name of charity. I've heard of a certain person who faked their health issues, forged results, documents, receipts and all, just so to get the help needed. Later, it was discovered that the person was lying about their conditions, and the charity organization involved has already made the situation public and a lot of people has donated towards their course.
Also, there are charity organizations that take in money, post about stuffs online and ask for donations, at the end of the day, they liase with some set of people who will help claim they collect the money, or receive meanwhile they didn't. It's all for show and to deceive the public that the money was used, meanwhile they diverted it into their own personal purse.
Also, here on #hive, I've seen a lot of people solicit and ask for #help, and the #community, everyone rise up to help. It's good, but we've also seen how some have abused it, now making it hard for those who need the help genuinely.
I can't say if it's that hard or not, but what I will want to suggest is that, there should be proper monitoring. Rule and regulations must be set, and charity foundations should be transparent. What I'm saying is, those who ask for help and in need of support should be verified, and the money coming in and going out of the organizations too should be made public... Always.
Social Media as well all know, is a very powerful tool. And we should ensure to use it for the right reasons always.
