April 1st is one day when nobody is actually safe. If you trust people on this day, you might as well sign up for premium heartbreak. I always prided myself on being the prankster, but this time? This time, I was the one who got played, not by anybody but by life itself.
So, here’s how it went down.
This happened just 3 days ago on the 1st of April 2025.
My younger brother woke up, walking around like someone who misplaced his plane ticket. But no, it was just his phone. He searched his bed, under his pillow, side of the bed to see if it might have fell while he was sleeping, he literarily searched everywhere yet, he couldn't find his phone. I saw his frustration and thought, Ah, perfect timing for some premium mischief.
Trying to keep a straight face, I casually asked, “Are you sure you checked well?”
“Yes now! I’ve turned this room upside down!” he grumbled, already getting restless.
That’s when I decided to up the stakes. “Wait… are you sure no one came into this house today? and what if we were robbed last night and we just didn’t notice?”
Ehn?! My brother froze. His eyes widened, his lips parted slightly, and you could almost hear the panic dial up in his brain. Meanwhile, I was fighting for my life, holding back laughter.
After a moment of horror, he grabbed my phone. “Let me just call it.”
That’s when it hit me I forgot to put his phone on Do Not Disturb! 😭
Before I could react, the phone rang loudly from where I had hidden it. His fear dissolved instantly, replaced by confidence. He didn’t even look at me, He just went to where the sound was coming from. I quickly rushed forward to block him, planning to scream “APRIL FOOL!”
But the universe had other plans.
As I ran, my own phone slipped from my pocket. Gbam!
It hit the floor. Not just a minor scratch? No!!! the back glass was gone, the camera and the flashlight stopped working and the screen? started touching by itself.
I just stood there, staring at my ruined phone. My brother? Oh, he laughed. He laughed so hard, he had tears in his eyes. Then He said "na God catch you" He didn't even see how badly my phone got damaged.
In that moment, I questioned everything. My life choices. My intelligence. The very existence of April Fool’s Day. I regreted pranking Him, "I wish I didn't even do anything at all" I said to myself.
Well, i just fixed my phone today and boy, i spent a whole lot in order to get it repaired.
So, do I think April Fool’s should be banned? Maybe. Maybe not. But one thing is certain, I’m officially retired from pranking that boy, not just him but anybody ever again. Never again!
PS: Aside the one i cited, the rest pictures are mine
