Is selfishness always bad?
Taking it from the Christian religion to the length that I know, it's expected of us to always look out for people, sacrifice ourselves to make sure the well being of others are intact as it happens in Jesus's life. In the context, others are first before us and to be candid, it's very good looking out for others but there's also a point where we need to pause, observe and see if we're doing it more and try to balance the system.
I must say, things have really changed a lot to how they were in those days. I feel we ought to put ourselves first these days and also give the same measures to others or if we can't give the same measure, let the difference be very little but I don't think we should put others first before considering ourselves.
There's nothing wrong in putting ourselves first because what if we die while leaving ourselves and tackling other people's problems? That's not nice at all. Life has grown to the stage whereby every man is facing one issue or the other especially with the tough economy and its wisdom to weigh the situation most times and know how to go about it instead of always going out for people.
Last weekend I was to attend an event and I didn't have the money to go there. The only option was to borrow money but when I weighed the situation, I saw that it would be very bad for me to borrow money to attend an event that I could just make an excuse for, after all I wasn't so close to the people and I just had to put myself first.
There's nothing wrong in putting oneself first.
