Os quiero mostrar la belleza de una villa típica de un pueblo blanco andaluz.
Andalucía está situada en el Sur de España donde las temperaturas en los meses estivales suben hasta alcanzar los 40 grados centígrados (104º F). Para minimizar el calor estos pueblos han adquirido las mejores técnicas arquitectónicas de las culturas que han estado establecidas en Andalucía. La cultura romana, árabe y judeo-cristiana.
I would like to show you the beauty of a typical Andalusian white village.
Andalusia is situated in the south of Spain where temperatures in the summer months rise to 40 degrees centigrade (104º F). Por ello las construcciones siguen el estilo de las villas romanas de hace más de dos mil años.
Son edificios de planta cuadrada con un patio central abierto con alguna fuente de agua y rodeado de árboles frutales o plantas que generan sombra y a la vez refrescan el ambiente de la vivienda. En este caso los árboles son naranjos que en primavera al florecer llena la villa de olor de azahar, que es el nombre de la flor de los cítricos.
For this reason, the buildings follow the style of the Roman villas of more than two thousand years ago.
They are square buildings with an open central courtyard with a water fountain and surrounded by fruit trees or plants that provide shade and at the same time refresh the atmosphere of the house. El suelo del patio está terminado con losas de barro. La fuente está hecha en mármol blanco y azulejos andaluces de origen árabe.
The floor of the courtyard is finished with terracotta slabs. The fountain is made of white marble and Andalusian tiles of Arabic origin.
Los techos están construidos a dos aguas cubiertos por tejas de barro y están sujetos con vigas de madera. También tienen vigas de madera los pasillos y porches de la villa.
The roofs are gabled and covered with clay tiles and are supported by wooden beams. The corridors and porches of the villa also have wooden beams.
Las barandillas son de hierro forjado a mano.
The railings are made of hand-wrought iron.
Pegada a esta villa encontramos otra con una forma muy parecida donde podemos disfrutar de su fuente central y de sus plantas y flores en macetas adosadas a las paredes del patio.
Next to this villa we find another one with a very similar shape where we can enjoy its central fountain and its plants and flowers in pots attached to the walls of the courtyard.
Geranios y gitanillas son flores típicas en Andalucía. Los jardineros expertos dicen que si la planta está en un contenedor estrecho la planta florece con más fuerza.
Geraniums and gitanillas are typical flowers in Andalusia. Expert gardeners say that if the plant is in a narrow container the plant flowers more strongly.
Este tipo de jardinería requiere un riego muy controlado por el riesgo de que se seque la planta.
This type of gardening requires very controlled watering because of the risk of drying out the plant.
Como se ha visto en esta villa la arquitectura romana, también hemos adquirido de la cultura árabe, construir las viviendas con calles muy estrechas donde se busca sombrearlas con las fachadas de las casas y así se producen corrientes de aire y refrescar el ambiente del pueblo.
As we have seen in this village the Roman architecture, we have also acquired from the Arab culture, to build the houses with very narrow streets where the aim is to shade them with the facades of the houses and thus produce air currents and cool the atmosphere of the village.
En vez de dejar las viviendas en el color del adobe como en los pueblos del Norte de África, los andaluces para combatir mejor el calor del verano suelen encalar las casas. (cubrir por capas de cal de color blanco que absorbe menos la luz del sol).
Instead of leaving the houses in the colour of adobe as in the villages of North Africa, the Andalusians usually whitewash the houses to better combat the summer heat. (covering by layers of white lime which absorbs less sunlight).
El edificio actualmente es la Casa de la Cultura de La Villa de Los Barrios y tiene el nombre del poeta Don Isidro Gómez, nacido en esta localidad. En las estancias del edificio se dan clases de música y pintura.
The building is currently the Casa de la Cultura de La Villa de Los Barrios and is named after the poet Don Isidro Gómez, who was born in this town. Music and painting classes are given in the rooms of the building.
