Hello everybody! The palace and park ensemble of the city of Gomel has many natural and architectural attractions. There is no doubt that the main attraction of the famous park is the Rumetsev-Paskevich palace. These buildings are monuments of architecture of the 18-19th centuries and the main cultural attraction of the region.
Monument to Nikolay Rumyantsev in front of the main building of the palace.
The Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace was built on the site of an ancient wooden castle. The history of the Palace began with the fact that Empress Catherine the Great (Catherine II) allocated a large sum of money for the construction of an architectural masterpiece. Notable architects and builders took part in the construction. The construction of the Rumetsev-Paskevich Palace took about nine years.
The roof of the central building is decorated with antique sculptures. Thus, the noble people loved to decorate their palaces.
The palace is one of the very first representatives of the style flow of early classicism - Russian Palladianism. This architectural style takes its name from the famous 15th century Italian architect Andrea Palladio. Each part of the building has columns and an entrance.
But in my opinion, a four-story tower stands out among all the architecture. The tower is 32 meters high and was built by a famous Polish architect.
The construction of the tower was initiated by Field Marshal Ivan Fedorovich Paskevich, who became the owner of the palace after the Rumyantsev family.
The tower is a vertical dominant around which a park space was created. However, the tower was originally smaller in the mid-18th century. All buildings are designed in the same style. A covered veranda adjoins one side of the tower, and on the other side the tower is connected to the main building by a projection and a pavilion with an open roof.
There is a large clock at the top of the tower. They are on each side. There is a round glass room on the second floor of the Paskevich Tower. It stands out among the general architectural composition of the palace.
The aristocracy of the building is given by the architectural order (a creative artificial element at the top of the column). In the palace of the Rumyantsev-Paskevichs, orders from the period of the Roman Empire and ancient Greece were used. The architects tried to create an image of greatness that has not been subject to centuries. Art.
The back side of the building offers incredible views. Each element of the building indicates the professionalism of the creators. For example, in front of the entrance to the underground museum, there are urns in the form of cannons from the era of the building's construction.
The idea of the author of the Rumetsev-Paskevich Palace was to make the building beautiful from all sides. Around the palace there are many rare trees brought from distant countries. In addition, the palace grounds are home to ancient design elements such as statues and huge vases.
I often pay attention to the windows of ancient buildings. Windows are the main element of residential architecture, providing light and natural light. I saw many windows and was impressed by the decision of the architects of the Rumyantsev-Paskevich palace. These people combined style and art. The windows are huge, but at the same time they are part of the architectural style of the Palace.
In the old days, the Rumetsevs' palace was huge and could be seen from any side of the large park. I wanted to show you the greatness of ancient architecture and climbed to the highest point of the park. This place - the observation tower, is also a local landmark, but more on that later. The palace looks interesting from a height of 40 meters.
A visit to the Rumentsev-Paskevich palace left a cultural mark on me. This is a unique place that brings together a couple of architectural styles and the work of masters from different eras. The palace is majestic. The vast territory is dotted with unique plants, buildings and trees, but in the center of the composition is an architectural masterpiece. In the near future I will show you the interior decoration of the palace of the Rumyantsevs Paskevichs.
