Hello arch lovers!
We are still in Chicago because there are still many things to see and discover, we are still fascinated by everything around us. This time we continue where we left off, in a previous article Chicago: Millennium Park and The Bean! (IV) we toured this area so iconic and loved by all who pass through it. An area where the nature of a green park converges in incredible harmony with the most avant-garde design without anything being out of place.
It is the heart of the city and we already talked about this great park, Millennium Park, but we also left out something very important. One element, well, actually, two, that leaves no one indifferent and I wanted it not to go unnoticed among so many architectural marvels, because in Chicago each building, sculpture or each piece of architecture rivals the others in terms of spectacularity. Even a simple fountain in a park becomes a piece of modern art here, with meaning and practical function for all who want to enjoy it.
This is the Crown Fountain, created by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa in 2004. As soon as we see it, it draws our attention and we realize that it is one of the current references of Millennium Park, one more.
As I was saying, there are actually two, two glass brick columns, which show what they call an interactive video sculpture. The fountain interacts like those who approach it, and it is also significant and very entertaining for some.
On these columns of light and water, thousands of lights are reproduced that form different faces, with different expressions and emotions. There it releases the water, through a central area, sometimes,in a very funny way and below there are some small shallow granite pools where all the water is collected and where, when it's hot (sometimes it's also hot in Chicago ) especially children can play there happily.
The modern sculpture as an element of public art becomes an element of urban decoration and entertainment, making use of water, light and technology. It's a fountain in a park, but it's not just any park or any fountain, right?
And if we want more classicism, we can simply take a few steps towards Grant Park, they are together only separated by a street, we cross from one sidewalk to another and there the Buckingham Fountain does stand out among all the open space. Another very regal name for a glamorous, classic, regal style font.
This fountain, which we can understand as a more familiar element in and old typical style, stands out in another way, due to the place where it is and depending on the angle from which we look at it, we can admire it almost alone, being the queen of the entire park or, on the contrary, from the other side, it appears in front of a whole scene full of buildings of a more modern style, and suddenly the image becomes the hallmark of Chicago again, a city of contrasts, between the old and the new, between different styles that demand your attention at the same time. An overload of architecture and design and a sensory stimulation of the 360 degree view, we can't stop looking everywhere.
And if we want more stimulation, in these parks, during the summer months, there is even more, all life energetically explodes among all these iconic points that fascinate us. Because we already mentioned that in Millennium Park there are concerts in the Jay Pritzker Pavillion, but there are also fairs and big music festivals like Lollapalooza!
At Lollapalooza we can tour Millennium Park and Grant Park from stage to stage, with many people and international music with first-rate artists. And in those moments of great enthusiasm and excitement we still don't lose track of the place, because we keep looking up, further, around us, even at dusk, the lights come on, and everything still looks fantastic.
And at night there's even more, there's always more in Chicago, for example, summer cinema in the most classic and popular way, with our own food and chairs, on the lawn we enjoy old classic movies in a space that's what we said modern? do you see? Once again the contrast, old and new, black and white images in a spectacular place with technological fountains and modern art spaces.
Everything comes together without fanfare, but harmoniously to the rhythm of the city and the people who enjoy and live it. There is a lot of life in Chicago.
Fall in love with Chicago, you'll see more...
