The presence of Germans in the State of Aragua was accentuated in the year 1843 when José Antonio Páez, president of the time, decided to bring German settlers and founded the "Colonia Tovar", which over the years has become a major tourist site in Venezuela.

The "Oktoberfest", a festival of German origin, is still celebrated in the month of October every year. It is an event where craft brewers gather and typical German food is served. The German Circle or German Club, as it is also known, is located in the middle of the mountain of the Henry Pittier National Park, in the outskirts of the city, it is a very beautiful area surrounded by large trees and where you can see a large population of birds. This is the only Club that has these characteristics in the city of Maracay, the others are located in the middle of densely urbanized areas where natural spaces have almost disappeared.
My contact with Club Germano started about thirteen years ago, at that time my oldest son was doing some work in Maracay. He is a big tennis fan and someone told him that there were some very nice courts at that club. As the place is close to my house we decided to visit it, and from the first moment we loved the atmosphere, it did not take long for me to buy a share and enjoy as a member all the benefits of such a beautiful place.
The club has many attractions to have a good time. It has a medium sized pool, with a water slide; sometimes when there is enough user demand the pool heating is put into operation, because of its location in the mountains the water tends to be a little colder than in the rest of the pools in the city, nothing that is not tolerable, and some people prefer these waters a little warmer.
Then there is the court area, where there are two tennis courts and a basketball and indoor soccer court. Both the pool and the courts are on terraces made to break the slope of the mountain.
To the north there are several multipurpose rooms, the largest are used for social events such as weddings, quinceañeras, or for corporate talks and conferences. Also in this area is the playground and a barbecue area for the use of visitors.
In the central part there is a large hall where the restaurant service operates, this space is also used as a party room.
Most of the structures are composed of large open spaces where wood, iron and stone predominate as construction materials, and the decoration has sought to reproduce some of the components of the architecture of German houses.
A detail that caught my attention is that in the central part, before the restaurant, there is an exhibition of a small fragment of rock belonging to the disappeared Berlin Wall, a reminder of a very difficult moment in the life of the German people, where families were divided for political reasons.

En internet es muy poca la información que hay sobre el “Circulo Germano”. Este club social está ubicado en el Norte de Maracay, dentro de la “Urbanización El Castaño”, un sitio residencial de viviendas unifamiliares, ocupado principalmente por las clases medias altas de la sociedad aragüeña.
Para el momento de mi visita todavía una parte de las instalaciones del club estaban en recuperación del deslave ocurrido en el mes de octubre de 2022. Pero la mayoría de los servicios, con excepción de una cancha de tenis, están operativos.
Una placa ubicada en uno de los ambientes del club nos dice que fue fundado en 1978, para ese entonces la gran mayoría de los directivos eran de origen alemán. Esta situación ha cambiado en los últimos años porque debido a la crisis económica de Venezuela, un buen número de descendientes de esos socios originales han emigrado hacia diferentes destinos. Son muy pocas las personas de origen alemán que se ven por el club.

Se sigue celebrando el “Oktoberfest”, una fiesta de origen alemán que se celebra en el mes de octubre de cada año. Es un evento donde se convoca a cerveceros artesanales y se hacen comidas típicas de Alemania. Esta reunión del “Oktoberfest”, siempre convoca un público bastante numeroso.
El Círculo Germano o Club Germano, como también se le conoce, está ubicado en plena montaña del Parque Nacional Henry Pittier, en la periferia de la ciudad, es una zona muy linda rodeada de grandes árboles y donde se puede apreciar una gran población de aves. Este es el único Club que tiene esas características en la ciudad de Maracay, los demás están situados en medio de zonas densamente urbanizadas donde los espacios naturales casi han desaparecido.
Mi contacto con el Club Germano comenzó unos trece años atrás, por aquel entonces mi hijo mayor estaba haciendo unos trabajos en Maracay. Él es un gran aficionado al tenis y alguien le dijo que había unas canchas muy bonitas en ese club. Como el sitio queda cerca de mi casa nos animamos a visitarlo , y desde el primer momento aquel ambiente nos encantó, no pasó mucho tiempo para que yo comprara una acción y poder disfrutar como socio de todos los beneficios de un sitio tan bonito.
El club tiene muchos atractivos para pasar buenos ratos. Tiene una piscina de tamaño medio, con un tobogán de agua; en ocasiones cuando hay suficiente demanda de usuarios se pone en funcionamiento la calefacción de la piscina, por su ubicación en la montaña el agua tiende a ser un poco más fría que en el resto de las piscinas de la ciudad, nada que no sea tolerable, y algunas personas prefieren estas aguas un poco más templadas.
Luego está la zona de las canchas, en las que hay dos canchas de tenis y una de basket y futbol de sala. Tanto la piscina como las canchas están en unas terrazas hechas para romper la pendiente de la montaña.
Hacia la parte norte hay varios salones de usos múltiples, los más grandes se usan para eventos sociales como fiestas de matrimonio, quince años, o para charlas y conferencias de tipo corporativo. También en esa zona está el parque infantil y una zona de parrilleras para el uso de los visitantes.
En la parte central tiene un gran salón donde funciona el servicio de restaurante, este espacio también es usado como salón de fiestas.
La mayor parte de las estructuras están compuestas por grandes espacios abiertos donde predominan como materiales de construcción la madera, el hierro y la piedra, en la decoración se ha buscado reproducir algunos de los componentes de la arquitectura de las casas alemanas.
Un detalle que llamó mi atención es que en la parte central, antes del restaurant, tienen la exhibición de un pequeño fragmento de roca perteneciente al desaparecido muro de Berlín, un recordatorio de un momento muy difícil en la vida del pueblo alemán, donde las familias estuvieron divididas por razones políticas.
