Hello everyone
How are you today ? I am sure that all members of the Architecture+Design Community are always in good health and happy to live this life. We know, every time that goes around and runs in this world will never come back to our lives. So, life will be beautiful if we avoid hostility, emotions, and also always do good to everyone.
This time, I want to re-participate in this community we love. One of the communities that has helped me a lot to always be better in the future. My trip this time to a cafe or coffee shop that has a unique and interesting design and architecture for us to discuss.
My trip took me to WarungbyTangga Coffee Shop. One of the coffee shops or cafes that often crosses my Instagram feed. I accidentally saw one of the content from the content creator who reviewed this coffee shop and it made me interested to come here. This coffee shop is located at Letjen Suprapto Street no. 11 – Medan Maimoon District, Medan City. The location of this coffee shop is very strategic because it is right in the city center from Medan City. The coffee shop building is located in a complex of corporate office buildings so that this coffee shop has a very large and comfortable parking area for customers who come.
Next, One of the interesting points of this coffee shop, WarungbyTangga, uses a classic part of the building belonging to the legacy of Dutch colonialism. This coffee shop uses the very end (perhaps used as an office canteen) of the classic building. Unfortunately, I did not get permission to photograph the building in its entirety. Only part of the coffee shop can be photographed.
What do you think after seeing the front photo from WarungbyTangga? I was very impressed when I saw this coffee shop. The paint color choice of the building is very different from some coffee shops I've seen or visited. WarungbyTangga chose a green color that you may never see. For the graphic designers, the paint color that WarungbyTangga uses seems to be Hooker's Green Colour, which is a green color composition created by the famous illustrator artist William Hooker.
a shady old tree used as an outdoor part of a coffee shop
WarungbyTangga is a classic building of Dutch colonialism. One of the hallmarks of the design and architecture of this era is their concern for environmental ethics. It can be seen from this building, it still has banyan trees which I estimate are old and very old.
Caring for trees and the environment will be hard to find in buildings built today, especially in Indonesia, where the majority of the people believe in mystical things, people will definitely choose to cut down old trees rather than being afraid. This coffee shop took advantage of the existence of the old tree very cleverly and put some tables and chairs and made it look more beautiful and look greener.
For the outdoor part, this coffee shop ues sosme furniture such as tables and chairs made of very sturdy wood. The furniture looks very luxurious, classic and also gives a strong impression to everyone who sees it.
Classic is Permanent
Next we discuss the most interesting and fun part of the building of this coffee shop. The old part of the building is still well preserved and preserved in this coffee shop. One of them is the door of this building. The door uses a two-leaf door model with very thick glass. The role of the door is very important for a building, the door is our first entry and also greatly affects the view. The classic impression gets stronger when we see the iron door or the installed railings, I feel like I'm in one other place.
In addition to the door, the window section also still uses the same window. The impression of classic and elegant is very strong. This window has an important role in a building, because it becomes access to lighting that enters a building. One of the characteristics of Dutch colonial buildings in Indonesia is the large and many square windows which aim to allow wind and air to enter the building and make it cooler without having to use air conditioning.
The classic impression of the WarungbyTangga Coffee Shop building is getting stronger, because this coffee shop chooses decorations and furniture with a classic feel. Various ancient items such as wall clocks, music players, and televisions that were made as decorations and decorations made me feel even more the antique impression of this coffee shop. Don't forget, the chairs and tables made of wood make this coffee shop even more beautiful.
My conclusion, something antique if it gets a good touch will definitely become more beautiful. WarungbyTangga Coffee Shop can also recognize their potential and advantages well. Utilizing the remaining space of a colonial building, instead of creating an aesthetic or minimalist coffee shop, this coffee shop has become a coffee shop with a classic, elegant feel but still fun to visit.
